It's an ad for the ASPCA, and I fall in love with the puppies and kittens!

2. Of our five current cats, three are rescues.

The second most senior (14 1/2 now) was an abandoned 5-week old we found at a rural rest area. She was feral, but got over it quickly. The other two we adopted recently (7 mo. old now) and their mother was a barn cat. They'd still be barn cats if we hadn't taken them in. All animals can accept love and reciprocate. I'd love to take in more critters, but five cats and two dogs is already a lot to care for. I don't want to become a crazy cat lady (especially since I'm a guy), but I'd love to care for them.

If I ever get hit with a windfall, there are four places that will immediately get some money - The local shelter for battered women (which needs bullet-proof glass), the shelter for homeless men, the food bank, and the no-kill animal shelter. There are others, but those are the main four.

One of the things that pisses me off the most is when someone asserts that animals have no souls and no sense of being. They're just as much "human" as we are. There's a golden down the street that frequently escapes. They treat her like shit, so no WONDER she escapes. They always know where to find her. She comes to me.

I treat her with respect but also discipline. Her first action is to roll over on her back and piss herself. One of the kids brings me a leash and I firmly tell her to sit, heel, and walk with me. She wants that. When whoever from the owner's house comes to get her, they just hook her up and drag her home - saying nothing to her. I'd love to take her into my house. She's an abused dog. Shouldn't be a shock, but they're solid Republicans.

3. I hate those ads. They make me cry.

I used to donate time to the Humane Society adoptions on Saturdays at KMart. And it made me so sad to see so many unadopted dogs and cats go back to the shelter, and I knew what their fate would be.
