The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThank you to all who encouraged me to take my kitten to the vets last week
She just didn't seem like herself but there were no other real symptoms that something was wrong. I decided to just call the vets office on Friday and they said the could get her in or I could make an apoointment for Monday and just keep an eye on her over the weekend. I took the appointment for Monday but then got nervous and called back and changed it for that day. Thank goodness because the vet said that if I waited until Monday she probably would be dead now.
It turns out she had a blockage in her small intestines from eating hair out of my hair brush (and a few plastic bristles too)
She had emergency surgery on Friday but is back home now eating like a tooper and she kept me up most of the night with very loud purring directly in my ear.
Thanks again everyone and especially to Raven's guardian angel (you know who you are )

(47,675 posts)He's 15 1/2 and I always have to check to see if he's still breathing. Animals know when you love them. They appreciate that you care for them. I'm glad you took her in and got that fixed. We lost my big boy's brother to a tumor that was blocking all elimination. He wasn't even all that old. Give her a hug for me (and a belly rub), well, no belly rub near the stitches.

(21,020 posts)is scary to me, and it's a big reason why I keep such a close eye on my pups' behavior.
I'm so glad your kitty is on the road to recovery.

(6,110 posts)She also looks a bit peeved, but I think that animals know when you've saved their lives. Good for you and good for your kitty. My cats are sending their best purrs your way. (By the way, minou turns 19 this week.)

(2,015 posts)She had just escaped the kitty burrito in that towel. Good news for me is she doesn't carry a grudge, she was back to snuggling into my neck in no time.

(205,202 posts)She's not only adorable, but has a very strong spirit, though I'm sure you already know that, LOL. And she certainly knew what she was doing when she found you. Thanks so much for sharing your good news!

(205,202 posts)The OP is a dear friend of mine, so I've met the kitten and she really is just adorable! And I remember that both you and I have an affinity for the black kittehs.

(153,150 posts)I have been with black cat since 1980: L.B., Rhombus, Skittles and now Clancy - Clancy is 14 years old. There's something about how their eyes dominate their face that draws me to them.

(205,202 posts)When my uncle died, his unpleasant wife was just going to drop off his pets at some shelter. Family members took the two dogs, so I agreed to take the cats. I knew the gray tabby, but the other one was a mystery to me. I just knew that "it" was friendly. That turned out to be my beloved Rhiannon.
And when Rhiannon had to spend two nights at the vet's, I couldn't help being drawn to another black cat who always seemed to be around. Turned out she'd been abandoned and it took me four months of feeding her and a have-a-heart trap to finally bring her inside. She was a real scaredy cat, got her a little cat "igloo" because she did a lot of hiding. But after she was examined by the vet and had necessary dental surgery, she became much calmer and friendlier. Poor kitty must have been in pain.
So I tend to advocate for the black kittehs. Two of my friends have adopted black kittens. And I do remember yours...

(153,150 posts)Rhiannon does a the meatloaf look with STYLE! My gawd, "unpleasant" does not even BEGIN to describe that awful gal who had been married to your uncle - to not even try to find homes for the pets? TERRIBLE!
P.S. I ordered a feral trap over the internet to trap my hairy tuxedo Riff Raff. It was the only way!!

Don't expect to get any more pictures though, she won't sit still long enough for that.

(205,202 posts)I didn't get much of a look at her after she was out and about, since we were so scared of Sandy... I'm just grateful to know that she's back to her kitten self!

(1,412 posts)Especially for kitties who lick a lot. Makes it easier for them to expel the fur balls. Glad your baby is better.

(6,096 posts)edible trader joes organic coconut oil (which is like a paste) to put on my psoraisis and had some on a paper plate. Kitty began licking it and I haven't had furballs for a long time now.

(2,015 posts)it wasn't her hair that caused the problem, it was mine. The bristles of the brush she ate didn't really do her any good either, thankfully they didn't perforate her intestines.
She is back to her usual spunky self now, keeping me awake at night and driving her kitty sister Symone crazy.

(34,195 posts)Brother and sister from the same litter. The female slept with me every night, curled up next to my chest. When I'd roll over, she'd hop over to stay next to my chest. I thought maybe she could hear my heart beating ?
It's been years since she died, but even now when I'm half awake/sleep, I sense her there.

(6,829 posts)We suspect he belonged to our (thankfully) long-gone next door neighbors (they had an indoor/outdoor cat who looked a lot like Crosby). We think they moved and just let him be a 100% outdoor cat (assholes). He loves to snuggle and has the best personality - he loves to sing to you, and he's always at the center of attention.

(2,015 posts)and I see he has the same "death glare" that Raven has, must be it comes standard with black kitties.
