Portable DVD Player Question

Mine just went black. Even when loading.

Can flat-screen DVD players "burn out" like the old-fashioned television tubes? Don't know whether to fix or buy a new one. (It's less than 5 years old.)

1. Yes, those display screens can burn out

It's a mercury bulb and can be replaced if you're feeling handy and know how to solder etc. If it's not the bulb, it could also be the power inverter which is even more likely. Depends on how much it costs for a new one. Probably not worth fixing unless you DIY. imho.
