My baby sister suffered a brain aneurysm and passed last Tuesday.

My kid sister was in her home in Big Bear. What we do know is that she was able to dial 911. Rescue forced open the door and found her on the floor. When they got her to the ER, the staff realized that she needed more help then what was available locally, and transferred her down the hill to the Loma Linda Medical Center. The Loma Linda doctors determined that the damage was too great to survive. My poor niece, and nephews just buried their dad 7 or 8 months ago, and now had to make the decision to take my sister off life support.

I got the news as I was driving east, and it took a couple of days for my asshole company to reroute my truck home. Services won't happen for a while, it will take a total of 10 days to have my sisters remains to be cremated and returned so I'll be back on the road Monday. My dad is in a physical therapy unit in Colorado, so the services will be scheduled when we both can attend.

We tried to talk my sister in to moving down from Big Bear after Mark died, but she would have none of it. I talked to her on the phone about two weeks ago and she seemed to be fine, and in reasonably good spirits. My Nephews said that as far as they know, there was nothing wrong with her.

My wife thinks she died of a broken heart, and selfishly I hope she is wrong, I now have one.

8. I too would like to offer my condolences. It seems so unfair.

And that is so quick, out of the blue like lightning. In some ways, it must be much harder on the family than if it were a long slow process where they could say goodbye. I can't imagine the agony they, and you, must be in. I hope you are close to your niece and nephews, in a time like this it would make a world of difference to them to have someone from the family who can be a parent figure for them, even if it's only via electronic communication from a distance away. Perhaps that would help all to heal. Best of luck to you, please take care of yourself, too, it's important.

I am in such shock. All I hope is that she didn't suffer...

Aneurysms are like that. There is often no warning...

Safe passage to her.

My deepest condolences to you and all who loved her...

22. Coincidentally...

I just saw something on TV about people dying of broken hearts, and it seems there could be some truth to it.

The stress and all...

In any case, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's never easy no matter how it happens.

30. Wow denbot I am so very sorry to hear that. Sincere condolences for your loss.

I know it must have been hard as hell to be away and not able to get home.

Sympathy, Bro. Would that there were some way to make the pain go away.

I'm assuming Mark was her Husband. I believe the two of them were happily greeting each other somewhere the moment she passed.

32. Deepest sympathies from the rurallibs

Mrs. Lib actually survived an aneurysm break after child #2 was born.
but her luck was incredible in that she was in a hospital, her gynecologist had just entered her room and they had a cart right next to her room that whisked her to the ICU. Even with all that she came within seconds of dying.

The attending neurologist had never had a patient survive an aneurysm, so he had no idea what would happen. He told me to be prepared for her potentially being totally paralyzed for life.

While no one can understand what you are going through, we had to deal with the suddenness and devastation of an aneurysm. My heart really goes out to you.

36. I'm so sorry, denbot. Heartbreaking for you and your family.

How old are your nieces/nephews?

Aneurysms are like that - most of the time you have no way of knowing that they're there.

My father had an enormous abdominal aortic aneurysm -- it wasn't what killed him, but once the doctors found it during another surgery, they basically just told him it might "blow" one day, and it might not. You just don't know, and quite often people don't know they're there -- it's just a gradual weakening of the arterial (usually arterial, sometimes venous) wall.

Regardless, my condolences.
