" we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL"

Cardale Jones, the third-string quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, doesn't understand what the heck he's doing going to classes and having to learn things at college.

"Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS," he tweeted.

The tweet was quickly deleted but not before several blogs and media outlets caught it.

Jones signed with the Buckeyes in February 2011, but spent last year at
a military prep school in Virginia to boost his academics, the Detroit Free Press reported.

We all know this guy, and probably most of his teammates have no business in college. His shitty grammar and punctuation illustrate that perfectly. He wouldn't be there if it were not for the football team. And, at OSU, like pretty much every other school with a football team, it's football above all. To say that members of the football (and basketball) teams are "student athletes" is a big farce. Yeah, some of them care about getting educated. But, most of them see college as a stepping stone to the pros. As long as people care more about the goddamn sports teams than they do academics, this is what we'll have.

is he thinking?

That he's going to be drafted into the NFL and play until he's 65?

Or maybe he'll just keep going to college without taking classes so he can play football the rest of his life.

duuuuhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

My point is that when I was his age I went to college for the stuff in my major and naively resented having to 'waste' time on general studies stuff. In my case I "came here to play COMMUNICATIONS, (I) ain't come to play BIOLOGY." In retrospect I understand better the value of the classes outside my main focus (I certainly had a better attitude when I did my masters) and hopefully this kid will, too, before it's too late.

And so does the NBA to a degree. (They're trying to build a farm system.) If you just want to play baseball, you don't necessarily have to go the college route as you can go directly into the minor leagues.
