Well, I did it. I joined Lifetime Fitness.

Pretty cool place. Looking forward to becoming a gym rat in my middle years.

WTF, who knew I had it in me.

And in a few years when I'm all fit and have actual muscle, maybe even abs, if women want to throw themselves at me, we'll, hey I could live with that.

1. My dear Denninmi!

Good for you! It does feel good to be in shape, or even just getting there.

I've recently started back to my gym, and I'm serious about going. I'm really tired of feeling lousy, with all my muscles aching and what not.

Good luck, and hang in there!

3. Well, I'm serious, too.

Honestly, this is something that is so far removed from my basic personality, it's really quite a rush because it's just "not me".

And this is a massive and really nice facility, very upscale. They have multiple locations, one 3-4 miles from my house, which would be my main attendance, but one just a couple of miles from my work, as well as others around the Detroit area. I can use any of them at any time, no restrictions.

All of the bells and whistles, too, spa/salon, restaurant, pools (I don't swim at all, I'm afraid of the water). Locker rooms seem very clean. All kinds of equipment, everything is very high tech. You can plug a USB or your iPod into the various machines and download data about your workouts with the right "ap".

The weight loss group sounds very good, I have an appt tonight with the leader of it to get me started. I'm going to do the 6 am group that meets MWF. I prefer mornings when I'm fresh to evenings when I have other things to do and could be tired.

Finally, they have all manner of interest groups, including ... a cycling club that does road rides a couple of times a week in season. THAT would be so good for me, to meet people with like interests.

And, they gave me a coupon for big discounts on spa services the first 30 days, I'm going to schedule myself a massage one of these days.

6. That would be nice.

I'm thinking maybe I'll meet someone in the weight loss group that would be interested in doing that.

5. Good for you!

Do it properly, with the right food, you could probably get there in 3-6 months.
After that, you just have to keep maintaining.

Good luck!

7. Yup, tis the plan.

Part of this involves consultation with a dietician. I actually know what to eat, just making myself do it, one way or the other, has been the issue most of my life. Right now, my appetite is still low, but I'm doing better than I did a month or so ago. Trying to eat a lot of lean protein.

8. Fiber heavy foods help, too.

They help keep you full and clean out the fat.

9. That's great!

How much does it take to hire a dietician? I think that is what I am missing.

10. Well, it's $75 extra for 12 weeks of this weight loss group.

3 days a week of exercise sessions, plus a weekly meeting with the dietician and personal trainer.

So, that's a pretty good deal. Nominal price is $175, but they give new members a $100 voucher towards various premium services, of which this is one.

11. Cool!

Currently, the only gym membership I have is a Wall Climbing place.
The rest of my work out needs are done at home.

12. My HMO (BCBSIL) has a helluva deal on Lifetime Fitness memberships but I don't have a convenient one

I can go to the fitness ctr at work (just starting back myself recently) but I think I'm going to want to find another venue soon.
