Lost kitten in Bryan, Texas (cross-posted in Texas group)

My friend in Fort Worth just called me hysterically crying. Her son attends Texas A&M Medical School, and this morning his 6-month-old chocolate point Siamese kitten named Goba darted outside and ran toward the woods near his apartment. The son chased Goba, to no avail. he is swamped with school, but went to his apartment office this morning and left a picture of Goba. I am trying to help in any way I can and am calling animal shelters in Bryan. Goba is microchipped, but not wearing a tag.

Can anyone suggest other things we can do? My friend is frantic. She's a physician in Fort Worth and is beside herself. Thanks.

Animal shelters and no-kill shelters often have them to borrow with a deposit.

This exact same thing happened with us about fourteen years ago behind our apartment at that time.

The next morning we had a scared, cold, but alive kitty waiting for us.

The cats in the neighborhood wanted nothing to do with it (including ours). Still haven't found him.

It's heartbreaking for me because I live in Sugar Land, about 2 1/2 hours away, and can't get to Bryan to help in person. The kid is swamped with med school classes and studying, and everyone he knows there is also a med student. His mom is a doctor in Fort Worth and is frantic; I think she wants to go there to help, but can't get away. I will pass along your suggestion in case the son gets time to go. Thank you!

He was entirely black (no distinctive markings other than black whiskers). He went missing. I put up fliers everywhere. A couple of days later, I spotted a group of men with pickups on the side of the road with a coyote (which I presume someone shot). It was just on the other side of the woods from our house. That didn't give me the warm fuzzies.

With any luck, Goba will just come back on its own. The chips sometimes work, but tags are better. My suggestion would be to call all of the local vets. The first thing most people do with a stray is take it in for feline leukemia testing, especially if they have other cats. Also call the local shelters. Most municipalities record dogs they find by the road, but not cats, but if you give them a description they'll generally contact you if one meets the description. That doesn't help matters much, but at least it brings closure.

They're supposed to be putting up flyers in Petco/PetSmart. I also placed a Craigslist ad. I do worry about coyotes, hawks, etc. My friends have two cats in Fort Worth and just got this kitten in July to keep the son company while he's alone at med school. Their cats are their whole world, which I can certainly understand, having three of the beasties myself. My heart is breaking for them. If I weren't having hand surgery shortly I'd be in the car headed there to comb the area. I'm always worried about one of our cats getting out, especially Morrissey, our flame point Siamese/tabby mix. He loves to wait at the door, and he moves so fast I'm afraid he'll just dart right out one day. I can't IMAGINE having a missing child; knowing a beloved friend's beloved cat is missing is killing me.

Thanks for posting.

I am more a dog person, but have heard from friends that cats can pretty much come and go if allowed to do so.

I was proud- and surprised- of the Bryan paper for endorsing Obama back in 2008-- any endorsement yet for this one?

Sorry to hijack. Back to the original programming......

Sometimes they will come out if it seems still and peaceful around them. Good luck, I sure hope they find that poor little kitty!

His mom is driving there now from Fort Worth. Apparently he looked today while on a break, but went to his gross anatomy lab. My husband and I are flabbergasted that he didn't skip the whole day to look for Goba, but it's his first semester of med school and he apparently doesn't want to get behind. If one of our cats went missing and I had a court hearing, I for damn sure would try to get a continuance and spend all my time looking for our baby. But that's just me.

Kitty never before tried to get out, so kid wasn't prepared for that and feels terribly guilty. SIGH.
