DUers from Pittsburgh or those who know the area. Need some info about Parking places

We have to go down to Grant street to the Federal court house next week and I want an idea on parking lots or buildings and cost and also distance from the court house. My wife still has weak lungs after her illness and walking long distances espeically up and down hills really get to her. We have to wait until we can afford her inhaler so I need to keep in my she won't have it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hope someone there can help you. Good luck.

2. Don't know if you've tried this or not, diabeticman,

but if you Google "federal courthouse pittsburgh pa," there's some info there.

Canadian Pharmacy has much cheaper inhalers.

Good luck!

6. Try the CONSOL Energy Center

The CONSOL Energy Center parking lots are less than $6 a day and they have shuttle buses. You'd have to check in to where they go but I'm pretty sure they would go to the courthouse.

18. Excuse me, but F that.

After the Penguins held the city for ransom threatening to leave Pittsburgh, forced us to build them a new arena, they have not really given squat back to the city. They make $14,000 a DAY on those lots, not just game days. I wouldn't give them a dime more.

Just my opinion, sure I've pissed off a bunch of Black and Gold people, sorry.

Could you get an Access cab?

8. There is a parking garage at the Convention Center........

this is @ 9th and Penn & you want to get to Liberty Avenue for the courthouse. This parking lot would be about 2 blocks from the Courthouse.

You could also park in lots on Smallman around 14th St. They run shuttles into town.

If you park in Smallman, you will be in the Strip District. I suggest a Fish Sandwich @ Wholeys at 17th and Penn. Wholeys has their own parking lot at 17th and Penn that you can use if you go into their store, no charge for parking.

You could also try a lot on Smithfield and 6th, when you exit onto Smithfield, you would walk up the alley to the courthouse about 2 blocks.

You could also park at Station Square & take the T (subway) to the Steel Plaza, exit the station (they have elevators) & when you exit, you turn left, cross the street and you're at the Courthouse.

Let us know where you park.

9. Thank you this does give me some ideas to work with. Does the subway or buses run around 6:30

or 7:00? She needs to be at the court house at 8 a.m. and they actually suggest you get there at least 15 minutes to 30 minutes before schedule time for check points. Thanks again for the info.

This is the Federal court house on Grant street?

Edit-- I hope I'm not confusing the city courthouse and the Federal courthouse.

16. Yes it does,......

I'll send you a link shortly. Also when you exit the Station. you make a right, not a left as I said, then cross the street & you're at the courthouse.

20. The Subway stops all have escalators AND elevators

You have to look for the Elevators, it is restricted to handicap people, but one exists at all three existing stops.

When the subway first opened, you could have taken a side line to the Pennsylvania Station and then walked to the Old Post Office Building (Which contains the Federal Courts) on Grant street. The line stills exists, and some people have plans for it, but no LRVs have run on it for over 20 years.

Today, you have to exit the Subway at the Grant Street Exit (the Second stop AFTER crossing the Monongahela River). You have the option of three exits, the first is onto Grant Street, the Second is up a fleet of stairs to Sixth Avenue.

The Grant Street exit is the easiest to describe, you exit and turn Right (in the Direction of the Allegheny River), Cross Sixth Avenue, then the US Steel Building, then Seventh Avenue, then you are at the US Post Office/US Court Building.

The Sixth Street exit is the opposite direction of Grant Avenue, up a flight of stairs onto Sixth, then across Sixth and walk down Sixth to Grant, then turn Right by the US Steel Building, then cross Seventh.

The last exit out of the Grant Street station is the one I would recommend, it is is to go up to where these two exits are, go in the direction of the Sixth Avenue exit but then take the escalators DOWN, and take the Tunnel to the US Steel Building. You avoid having to cross Sixth Street, but you still have to cross Seventh Avenue to get to the Federal Courthouse/Post Office Building.

More on the Grant Street Station/Mellon Center Station/Steel Plaza Station (All three names have been used over the last 20 years):

I am sorry, driving downtown Pittsburgh is possible, but it is easier by Streetcar (LRV) or bus.

PAT Bus Schedules:

PAT "Trip Finder":

The LRVs/Buses start to run about 5:30 AM.

early. She will be pissed off IF she is selected for this thing.

14. You'd be taking a trolley. Not sure how early they run these days

When I used to commute through the city, the trolleys ran early enough to get me into town to catch a 7:45 bus, and I suspect that they ran earlier, too.

It's been a while, though, and they've cut back on a lot of PAT service. You'd want to check their website.

17. Port Authority Link

Here's the link for the T. You want to search, leaving from Station Square & arriving at Steel Plaza (4 minute trip). See what the fare is. Add $1 to the fare & ask for a transfer, this allows you to return on the T just using the transfer, not having to pay full fare again.

If you do use the T. I might suggest leaving your wife off at the Station Square entrance to the T (it's actually an above ground station)
& then you park. Becuase it's a loooong block walk to the station from the parking garage.
