I've heard this song featured on the erstwhile Art BELL show and was infectiously drawn to it, but never knew who/what it was and didn't strain to decipher the lyrics. Well, thanks to Google, it just takes a snatch of lyrics to track something down with amazing speed. And it turns out the artists are even more somebodies I had no knowledge of, one Alan PARSONS and Eric WOOLFSON (latter, deceased in '09), The Alan PARSONS Project, and that the eponymous fellow was crucial in creativity at Abbey Road (the studio) and with The Beatles and Pink Floyd (who?!1) among many others.
Wiki adds a tantilizing gossip tidbit, that allegations were floating around the 'net that Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" was a (melodic?) ripoff of Eyes. "Need You Now" has been drawing me these few months, plus another PARSONS song for another group from the '70s has always drawn me (I'll look it up) ON EDIT: The Hollies' "He Ain't Heavy" and "The Air I Breathe" -------HUH?!1 What's with the Pisces (me) psychic/intuitive thing?!1 It's like the same people I like all liked BIZET's "Carmen" -- TCHAIKOVSKY and NIETZSCHE!1

The Alan Parsons Project - Eye In The Sky Lyrics
Don't think sorry's easily said
Don't try, turnin' tables instead
You've taken lots of chances before
But I ain't gonna give anymore
Don't ask me
That's how it goes
'Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin'
Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let the fire rush to your head
I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
The sun in your eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing
I am the eye in the sky, looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
Don't leave false illusion behind
Don't cry, I ain't changing my mind
So find another fool like before
'Cause I ain't gonna live anymore
Believing
Some of the lies
While all of the signs are deceiving
I am the eye in the sky, looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
I am the eye in the sky, looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
(Looking at you)
I can read your mind

(51,122 posts)I have most of their albums.
My wife listens to Art Bell. I've heard Eye In The Sky drifting out of her office now and then.
Alan Parsons engineered Dark Side Of The Moon. 'It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988.' No small accomplishment.

(51,122 posts)They produced several good albums after that, but they got more and more commercial.
He also produced and engineered 'Year of the Cat' for Al Stewart. Another of my favorites of the 70s.
My wife and I saw Al Stewart perform in a small venue recently. We sat 20 feet away from him as he and his partner played acoustic guitars.

Some I don't own, so no opinion is posted by them. If you love instrumental music, the APP albums are the ones to get. (8,601 posts)I think both of those are awesome albums. However, I do agree that On Air is just utterly lacking. I like that they added Christopher Cross as a guest vocalist, but there is nothing uptempo of any worth on the whole album, and by the time it's done I'm ready to just zonk out.
Oh, and Freudiana is very good as well.
