Tuesday at 9 AM I finally get my new teeth

I go in to get the remaining 6 out (molars came out in Sept to give the gums time to heal for a good fit)

My disease has taken a massive toll on my body and especially my teeth. I am ashamed at the way they look because I was fortunate that my parents provided me with braces as a child (old technology during the 70's) Those braces and the technology they used probably took some of the enamel off around the gum lines. But, I was so happy to have the braces because my teeth were horribly crooked. The braces made them straight and beautiful. My parents sacrificed a lot to be able to afford braces for me and I took very good care of them. I brushed three times a day, flossed and had them cleaned every six months. Over the years, however, this shitty disease has caused them to rapidly deteroriate to the point that they just crumble.

After a great year of no hospital stays, we have finally come to the point that I can get new teeth. I have had several "fitting" appointments and picked out the color. SO tomorrow at 9 AM I am getting the last 6 teeth out and an immediate denture put in place.

I am terrified. I wish I could just be put to sleep and wake up when it is all over, but that is not the case. I will be given Nitrious Oxide and am taking my IPOD so I can drown out the noise.

Please send your prayers and good thoughts my way, I am scared as shit!!! Probably need a tranqulizer or something...I know I will be shaking when I get there. Thank God it is 9 am so that I won't have time to really freak out about it.

You will be fine!

I think the IPOD is a great idea...

They want to help you, and they will. You're not the first patient who's had this done, I'm sure...

Hang in there, sweetie!

will be much less traumatic than the molars!

If you made it through that, which you obviously did, this will be a walk in the park!

I got my dentures when I was pretty young... early 40s. But I was so tired of cavities and root canals and never ending problems... I SO welcomed getting them!

I'll be thinking calming and smiley thoughts for you tomorrow!!!

I would love to have this done at an oral surgeon but our insurance said it wasn't necessary so to stay within our allowed coverage, I am just having them pulled. I should have done this a couple years ago. With all the extractions AND the plate, it is costing us out of pocket less than $1000.00 and insurance picks up the rest.

If I had gone to the Oral surgeon, it would have added another 2 grand our cost to the bill.

My dentist is pretty great and other than the mental anxiety, he is very gentle and the removal is relatively painless. I am just a HUGE big baby when it comes to stuff like this.

I should take a before and after hehe

Make sure someone drives you there and back.

PS Two friends of mine recently had oral surgeons yank out their teeth and they were butchered. Regular dentists are better.

I'm happy that you'll have a new smile....
I also have a horrific fear of the dentist .....I have to be sedated just to get a filling ...
Sedated .... IV or oral sedation.
But the Nitrious Oxide should alleviate the fear....good stuff

Your husband holding your hand will also calm your fears ....
Smile inside for now ....smile for the world coming soon...

You'll be fine...
I'll be thinking of you...

peace~

Pretty sore now and the denture plate feels HUGE in my mouth.

The entire visit was about an hour. 6 teeth out and stitches and the plate in.

The teeth look good, really good but I guess it will take a while to get used to it.

day two is better. Last night I dreamed that I had gum in my mouth ( I hate gum) and kept having to take it out. Strange...I don't chew gum and would never put it anywhere. Must be due to the new feel of the teeth.

Went back this morning for a check up to see how the plate fit and other than one tiny spot, it fit beautifully and the extraction sites look very well on their way to healing!

and you bet you're gonna be sore.....but, keep them in, do what you can do for the pain, but KEEP THEM IN. Many people take them out because they hurt, and then when they try to put them back in, they can't because they DON'T FIT. Gums change, the whole mouth changes, and if you don't keep them in now, they won't fit later. Sorry for the sermon.....I used to work for dentists and know of what I speak. Good luck and d*mn they look great.

Yea, I have been keeping them in almost constantly. I take them out to rinse my mouth with salt water to help the extraction sites. I also rinse the teeth at that time so nothing irritates the stitches.

Other than that, they are always in. I don't want people to see me with out them!
