my poor little palmetto tree
like me it is going to grow BIG roots in Summerville SC.I love my palmetto tree like I love Summerville.And the Budster thinks it is an excellent place to do his thing

Those are Sagos, a kind of cycad native to Japan. The botanical name is Cycas revoluta.
The state tree of South Carolina is Sabal palmetto, the Cabbage Palmetto or just "Palmetto". It would look like this when young: ![]() |

3. Sago Palm - extremely toxic to dogs

That is a sago palm and it is about the most toxic plant to dogs that there is.
If a dog chews on one as little as one leaf their liver is destroyed in about 24 hours and nothing you can do to stop it. Please keep your dog away from these plants and especially their seeds. I don't know why nurseries sell these without a warning. |
