Ahem. I think that Neil DeGrasse Tyson would back me up in my assumption that

wearing an expensive looking suit and waving your hand in the air casually while you jaywalk across the corner of 14th and G NW, during rush hour in Washington DC will *not* magically negate the laws of physics to the extent that my 2000+ lbs of motor vehicle going 20+ miles an hour will sustain more damage than your sorry ass should I not be able to apply my brakes in time.

I jest. But boy, do I understand your frustration.

And on the reverse of that coin: Mrs. V. told me that in times past, while walking downtown on breaks from work, she would go nowhere without a big, long, pointy umbrella. If she were in a crosswalk and a car threatened to get too close, she would brandish her umbrella. And she wasn't averse to bringing it down on the hood of the car.
