at the mayo clinic trying to find answers to the many issues that have dogged her since her dx with chron's disease 10 years ago, at age 9. so many pain problems, unusual symptoms, and bad med reaction. oh, and callous doctors.
everyone here seems extremely caring and professional, and she is feeling good about it in spite of the grueling tests she is going through.
right now she is getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy. tomorrow we get results.
more than anything she wants answers. my shaking fingers are crossed.

(69,997 posts)gonna go get some actual food now that there is no more fasting or other bs.
hopeful about results but also just really curious about how the great mayo clinic works and whether we will get some mayo magic. don't know what all blood work they did, but they took a jillion tubes. most of it the normal, but they will be testing for a lot of autoimmune stuff that hasn't been tested yet.
well, will let you know tomorrow afternoon.

(32,929 posts)I've had a colonscopy and endoscopy, even my being in good health, they suck. Strong wishes for your baby girl, and her parents. Chrones is awful
mopinko
(69,997 posts)sigh. the good news is that she doesn't have celiac, which we were afraid of. confirmed that she is having low motility, which is causing her trouble. but the chron's itself is quiet. still waiting for biopsy results, but mostly she looked good.
she does have some arthritis that is probably related to the chron's, and the cause of some of her pain problems. that is welcome info. not much to be done about it, besides pt to strengthen the associated muscles. sucks to have that kind of deterioration at her age.
a few weird but innocuous incidental findings that will bug her i am sure. i know that sort of stuff bugs me.
all in all, at least it is good to know where you are. we were hoping for more of a plan, but she will take the info back to the pain doc, and hopefully they can form a better plan from it.
thanks for all the good vibes. i showed her this thread and it made her smile.

(23,998 posts)Best of luck to your daughter and to you in finding the answers you need. I know from experience with my children how frustrating it is to get a proper diagnosis.
mopinko
(69,997 posts)i have fibro, as does she. she goes to the rehab institute for that. she sees them the end of the month. i am hoping this leads them to do some looking. she is too young to have her pelvis and spine deteriorating. aarrgghhh.
Fridays Child
(23,998 posts)But he wasn't diagnosed until the age of 29, when the heads of his femurs had collapsed in on themselves and pushed through their sockets. He required two hip replacements. His spine was also partially fused by that time, as were his sacroiliac joints. Years of misdiagnoses, years of worsening pain dismissed as minor arthritis took their toll. It took losing the ability to walk to finally get a correct diagnosis. Now, the same disorder is suspected in my daughter, who just turned 18. She'll be getting an MRI with contrast, later this month, hopefully. She also has fibromyalgia and is in constant pain. She has the genetic marker for spondyloarthropathy. We'll see whether her sacroiliac joints are inflamed and/or beginning to fuse. I hope not.
Hang in there. Good vibes to your daughter.
mopinko
(69,997 posts)yeah, exercise is not an adequate answer as far as i am concerned. may put her on a plane back there to see rheumie, will see.
been through a ton of similar stuff myself. it sucks.

(69,997 posts)it made me feel so much better, and helped her also. so frustrating to not have answers, especially now. but glad that her chron's is quiet, at least. and that we have some clues about the pain.
and the things that were ruled out made us both very happy. so, more answers and fewer questions would be been better, but it was worth the trip, i think.
again, thanks so much to all.

(204,779 posts)I know what it's like to be chronically ill and how discouraging that can be. It took me three surgeries (two at Mass General in Boston) to finally get well. Sounds like you finally found the right place for your daughter. Hoping so much that you fine a solution for her and a return to good health...
