Most of you have already "met" Gizmo. If you haven't, here he is in action with his sister:
Today ElderSon pointed out something interesting. This is Giz with his fur lying normally as of an hour ago:
And this is what happens when I part it. He looks like he is growing out a bad dye job! LOL:

(24,761 posts)That's what they call black cats with a gray undercoat.
Here's some more info about cat coat colors: http://fanciers.com/other-faqs/colors.html

(72,377 posts)this coat is probably more common in Maine Coons. (But his personality is so Ragdollish, I'm still leaning that way.)
Whatever he is, he is the cutest and the bestest of that kind.

(24,761 posts)Sylvester turned out to be like that. When I first adopted him (in 1996), he looked just like Looney Tunes' Sylvester, only without the clowinsh nose. When he got older, his fur seemed to turn grayish.

(6,581 posts)Actually, if he keeps that two-tone look, I think that would be a lot more interesting and attractive than just solid black. Pretty cool, really.

During those years, she slipped past me at the door about 5 or 6 times and would head
DIRECTLY for the nearest patch of dry, sandy dirt and BATHE in it, rolling over and over
and luxuriating in whatever it did for her.

She left a black-and-white tuxedo cat... she returned a 100% grey tabby.

(47,675 posts)Seriously though, that's not uncommon. A lot of animals change shades as they grow. Our sheltie was much lighter as a puppy and I had a mixed breed that became much lighter.
