There's always a danger in seeing a midnight showing of any movie. But I suspect my initial reactions would be the same.
Technically, the movie told a smoother story than the Swedish movie. That might be a bonus for those who don't know the story, but I'm not sure it's an improvement for the aficionados. Mara Rooney as Lisbeth Salander. Those bleached eyebrows were a mistake. She did everything right, acting wise. But it was difficult to get past that botoxed expression and get into her as a person. She was very android. However, what I did like was that they showed more examples of her higher intelligence. For example, the way she escaped the mugger in the subway station.
The sodomy scene cut down extremely on the voyeuristic effect of the first movie which should quell the criticism that you hear from feminists. On the other hand, because you didn't see the emotional impact (and I mean, afterwards, with only a vague hint of a crippled walk and a shower scene which could have been anyone, except for the bruising on her shoulder) it left you wondering if she went too far when she took her revenge on her guardian. (Though, still satisfying) That scene was the most violent in the movie, in my opinion.
Frankly, the best acting came from Martin, the guardian. Erica & Henrik. They were the most believable.
My suspicions of Daniel Craig being too polished for the role panned out. There's no frump factor in Craig. When he finally comes apart when he gets shot, you feel like it's set up intentionally for that scene where Lisbeth takes over.
Possibly, in the next movie, Lisbeth will have a chance to connect with the audience. In this movie, she seemed more android than feral and it was not because of her acting.
