...and the explanation seems to be that, if the lawn is made of those pre-grown grass turf sheets that landscapers unroll and lay down in front of your house (as opposed to spreading grass seed and actually growing grass), water can build up beneath the grass and cause a "water bed" effect. The "turf blister" in the video linked to in the OP did eventually burst, but, unfortunately, that scene was not caught on video.

they REALLY need to call an engineer or someone, 'cause they're about to have a large muddy ravine in their front yard heading towards the house.

Looks like sod was laid a few years ago, and now there's a massive water leak that's caused the sod to peel away from the ground.

There was a leak in the irrigation. Heavy clay soil with turf on top. Water wouldn't drain down so it bubbled the turf. Strange sight to see your lawn undulating up and down.

there was a house up the street from my friends house.
They had a waterbed outside.
Pretty cool to lay out there at night and smoke pot.
I never met them but my friend said they didnt mind.
It stayed warm all night from the sun.
