"Windows 8 Desktop"- they must be kidding.... right?
Wha- you don't have to read no more? Playskool makes a better desktop.

2. That's ugly.

We just got Windows 7 computers at work, they are pretty much the same look as before.
Can you reduce those hideous icons/images to more normal, windows-looking desktop shortcuts? Or will I be doomed to look at that mess some day in the near future? |

Last edited Tue Jun 19, 2012, 09:55 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) played with it for a little bit - it ran smoothly on a weak laptop. But it felt like I needed a touch screen to really enjoy it,,,I don't mind the tiles and if they come up with good apps to put in them that run live on the desktop it has potential for some cool stuff.
Also, it just takes a half a second to switch to the win7 style desktop. You don't have to run the tiles. I don't like them taking aero out of the desktop though - I expect I'll skip this one as long as I can unless I get a touchscreen or tablet... |

7. agreed, runs smooth but definitely meant for touch screen, also
|
removing aero was nice, eats up to much RAM anyways.
aero is cool, but not necessary for tablets. i have a half TB internal dedicated to win8 just for playing around. i reserve my 1.5 tb internal for win7, and use as my primary. haven't really messed with switching to win7 desktop style, guess i could screw with that too. i have dual monitors but i've been thinking of upgrading to touch screen. they have some monster ones at microcenter i've been drooling over for the last six months now. the beta image has been fun, but i also agree. unless i get touch screen desktop monitors or a tablet i'll probably just pass this one up. |

6. yep
|
it's the stnadard Win7 desktop underneath and just takes blink to switch to it.
But I read they were leaving the aero interface out so it's all boring opaque windows. |

9. They don't include Aero tho...
|
And that, for me, was a great improvement

11. I agree with SB that aero is useless on a tablet
|
but i tend to keep my desktop machines plugged in all the time and a they are powerful enough to handle the shiny.
