Things that make me feel old - the first LOTR film was released ten years ago today

Every now and then something comes along that reminds me I'm fifty. This was one of them.

It all let up to ten years ago today, December 19, 2001, when dream became a reality and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released in theaters nationwide. It opened to about $75 million over its first five days, eventually grossed $315 million domestic, $871 million internationally, garnered 13 Oscar nominations – including best picture – and won four.

The trilogy was completed of course, the prequel Hobbit is being produced and seven Harry Potter movies have been released. Why bring up Potter? Look at the similarities:
