(20,176 posts)It's the kiss of death. If past history and bad fortune holds true, you'll get rear-ended and totaled or hit a slick patch and wrap it around a lamppost or it'll refuse to start within days. It's like how the toaster catches fire the day after the warranty expires.

(5,364 posts)Just paid mine off a few months ago and I really do notice my increased liquidity. I take care of it and still enjoy it. Definitely going to hang on to this one at least till the house is paid off.

(204,779 posts)And don't let the superstitions get to you. I paid off my car two years ago and it's still a terrific car and I'm as fond of it as I was when I was fortunate enough to get it. *knock on wood* LOL. Though I did have to buy a new battery today...

(3,539 posts)I did get an email from my local dealership asking me to stop in and get an estimate on my car's trade in value. The 2013 Mustang GT they were dangling under my nose is $36,440. I like the car alot but I like not having a car payment much more. I'm going to concentrate on making modest upgrades to this car starting with slotted rotors and disc brakes. Then the exhaust and suspension. A body kit is in the works as well.

(23,159 posts)You can definitely get used to not having those payments!
The only thing better than having it paid off is having it paid off early and saving a whole bunch of $$ on interest payments! ( I figured that paying mine off on the schedule I did saved me about $3500 in interest--enough for a real nice vacation!) If you can do that, you're in clover, my friend! Extra $$ in your pocket and not some bankster's!
