1. Yes...and read the book.
|
I own the DVD too, it was like $2 when Blockbuster folded.
It's good but it's really depressing. |

2. The acting was really good, particularly Michael Shannon
|
but, yes, I would say it was indeed a buzz kill. If one is seeking a reward in watching a film, there isn't much of one here. Pretty much a dismal reality.

3. Yes, I've seen it

It is depressing. At first, so full of hope and excitement for the future and later depression in the face of adversity. It was the first movie of DiCaprio's when I thought he had truly grown up and had a serious role.
Let us know what you think of it. |

5. If you liked "A single Man"
|
(I did) it has that essence about it. A quiet film, in a different era dealing with
the human condition. |

Last edited Mon Apr 30, 2012, 07:34 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) about suburban despair just under the surface in the 1950s. Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet do a great job in it. All the actors do.

I thought it would be better. Some good acting, though. Was just a bit disappointed.

Kate deserved the Oscar--very depressing but the kitchen scene was hot.

10. My advice: avoid it like the plague.
|
I've seldom seen such a boring piece of drivel. The dialogue is corny, the chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet is non-existent, the story is clichéd, the characters are cardboard cut-outs, every emotion the characters display are ridiculously over-acted, half of the time they're just yelling instead of acting, and after half an hour you just don't care anymore what happens.
