Thom Hartmann: Thom Destroys "Overpopulation" So-Called Expert...

Jonathan Last, The Weekly Standard & author, "What to Expect When No One's Expecting" joins Thom Hartmann. Conventional wisdom says that overpopulation is a global threat - that has the potential to wipe out resources - cause widespread famine - and bring our environment and civilization to their knees. Not according to Jonathan Last.

1. What a farce.. Exactly which part of "unsustainable" does Mr Last NOT understand?

How shortsighted mankind is. To populate the planet beyond famine and environmental disaster is tempting mother nature to retalitate. Here is a subject so pervasive yet largely ignored. Beyond that to hear some claim that if you're not republican or conservative by your 30's you're a fool. I say you're just short sighted, ignorant, selfish and childish in the extreme.
I am omegan.
So is my whole family-- last of our line. There will be no more of us. The conciousness of these matters have always disturbed both me and all my siblings to the extent that none of us have any desire to procreate, only adopt, educate and work at sustainability.

2. The dramatic dot video of population growth. A world map beginning in 1 A.D. with 1 dot = 1 million

http://www.populationconnection.org/site/PageServer?pagename=issues_main

It is about 6 1/2 minutes long but you can skip the first 2 minutes -- the actual dot stuff begins at 2:00 and ends at 5:42. At 5:00 have reached about 1600 A.D. while the population is still quite modest outside of India and China. (So if you are in a time bind, you can start at 5:00 and watch just the last 42 seconds) "As the film neared present day and the dots started flying onto the screen, there were audible gasps, wide staring eyes, and mumblings of "no way" and "I knew we were growing but not THAT much."
