1. It's part of the repig/reich-wing gun fetish

A gungeoneer once equated guns to pool noodles for lethality in a thread; he was serious too.

2. I had to Google 'pool noodles' (flotation devices)

but, yes, I can imagine such an argument from a denizen of that haven for RW talking points.

3. Well, he didn't compare guns to spoons

It was a weak metaphor, nevertheless.

I get so damned annoyed that the GOP are suddenly all in with mental health when the debate is about guns. When the debate is about health care coverage, they disappear.

7. That bothers me too, especially when they don't want to do anything to help the mentally ill

When they bring mental illness into the debate it seems to be more about blaming the mentally ill than it is about finding help for them. Once they introduce serious propsals to provide treatment for mental health issues I will listen as I certainly think we as a society need to do a better job of handling mental health issues, but I am sick of them using the mentally ill as a scapegoat.

5. Well its highly unlikely you want to put a gun in your mouth...

unless you want to blow your head off.

BARLETTA: This is a perfect example why people believe Washington is broke. This horrific incident in Newtown, and here what is our debate? It’s focusing on guns when there is not one person at this table who really believes that that’s the root of what happened there and — when we have people that get into the mind-set that they want to harm people, as a former mayor, I know people will get guns no matter what laws we pass, just like the illegal drug –

KRUGMAN: I caught you on a false statement there because at least I do believe that guns are the root. There are crazy people everywhere, but mass murderers are a lot more common here than –

BARLETTA: You believe guns are more important than dealing with mental health and our culture. Is our culture lending itself that we’re raising children that are desensitized to murder, to killing people.

KRUGMAN: I look at the international differences — countries that have effective gun control have a lot fewer –

BARLETTA: Would banning spoons stop obesity?

9. Poor Paul Krugman! He has to sit there and endure lunatics like Barletta...I hope they

pay Dr. Krugman a hefty sum to suffer these fools...

It might prevent us being spoon-fed this kind of shit.

6. What was perfect was Paul Krugman's statemnt

“What strikes me is we’ve actually gotten a glimpse into the mindset, though, of the pro-gun people and we’ve seen certainly Wayne LaPierre and some of these others. It’s bizarre,” he said. They have this vision that we’re living in a Mad Max movie and that nothing can be done about it.

Yes, the pro-assault weapons crowd are living in a Mad Max movie, removed completely from reality. How do you deal with crazies of this sort?

8. The police today have and use AR15's, times have changed

the bad guys have different guns today and if you have to protect your family you may need more than a 5 shot pistol.

21. The reason being to first protect themselves......

they have been outgunned due to the free wheeling policy of any gun goes spearheaded by the NRA.

I know in 31 yrs I went from a 38 special - 357 - 9mm - 40 cal . - a shotgun and a Bushmaster.

Tell me how did that happen? Tell me why? Don't tell me its your right to out gun the police.

12. Notice it is either/or. Guns are the root of the problem - no they are the tool in the problem

criminals will get guns no matter what laws we pass - it is not a matter of total gun control or no gun control

That guy ought to be selling life insurance not being allowed near the controls of our country

18. I'm sure there was a guy in China who tried to attack people with a spoon.

Therefore, we must ban all spoons. Even though that guy failed to kill anybody.

Still, there's this:

Okay, he's a vampire with superhuman strength.

17. But the right wingers were the ones who closed the state mental hospitals.

They didn't want to pay for mental health treatment, so they threw them into the streets and the prisons. What do they propose to do with (to) the mentally ill now?

But I feel bad that he has to be in the same room as that clown... I really appreciate how he speaks up.

20. One of the stupidest comparisons I've ever heard in my life

I don't think you can kill too many people with a spoon. Unless, of course, you fire it somehow from a special gun. But what can you expect from a typical RW idiot.

22. BARLETTA: You believe guns are more important than dealing with mental health

a. where were you when people were crying out for insurance companies to better cover mental health

b. spoons - that's all you can come up with - spoons? No wonder Jindal and others are calling the GOPT the stupid party.

Barletta the teaparty stooge who would cut healthcare and medicare, but don't touch those corporations.

23. If we had to choose banning guns vs. doing something in mental health the asshole Republican

might have something, but we can do both.

Ban guns AND do something about mental health.

Yes, America has a "sick" culture, it's the "gun culture".
