Thom Hartmann: Why Does the Pro-Life Movement Align w/the Pro-Death Party?

Thousands attended the annual mecca to the nationís capital on Friday to ďMarch for Life.Ē Itís an anti-abortion rally thatís held in Washington, DC every year going all the way back to 1974. You can tell they really believe itís an issue of life and death as every poster, slogan, and speech is soaked with the word ďlife.Ē Itís called the ďMarch for Life.Ē Can we really trust the "sanctity of human life" with a political party that puts gun sales ahead of the lives of 1st graders? Only when the so-called pro-lifers in the Republican Party begin to respect not just the life of a cluster of cells in a womanís womb, but also the life of the woman herself, and her working class husbandís life, and her gay or lesbian auntís life, and her child who will have to inherit this warming planetís life, and her Afghan or Iraqi friend abroadís life - only then - will they genuinely be pro-life. But until that day, Republicans are just marching for death.

1. K&R for not underestimating the DEATH-mystique known as the Republican party & it's wars on us &

abroad.

Please inform yourself about S. 2205 introduced in the 112th Congress and currently in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:

2. I've been wondering this for a while

on one hand they supposedly care about the unborn's lives but at the same time a lot of them are stanch supporters of the death penalty and military adventurism.

4. Because it's never really been about the lives of the unborn -- it's about controlling women. nt

3. been this for awhile now...

and former pastor can't figure it out.. really sad too. basically no longer on talking terms. Basically I came to terms with it this way. the "Pro Death movement made a pact with the Devil. He wants something in return. and that would be the mllions more dead in 40 years. if someone can give me a quoted dead rate on how many other people and babies have died once outside the womb to match their so called 50 million they claim would have been prevented (not true. ) that would be interesting. That and they are hypocrites. so in the land of the free it's not okay for woman to have the morning after pill in Hobby Lobby,, but 95 % of the stuff is made in China (Hobby Lobby used to be made in america) China is pure forced abortions. So how many 100's of millions has their support of Chinese products cause and paid for forced abortions?? no ? they never give an answer on this. they tend to shut up. Hence why he's no longer on speaking terms with me.

8. I share your skepticism on the abortion stats given by the "pro lifers" Patryn.

Recently, during a social gathering, one of the big "pro-lifer" Republicans in the bunch claimed that San Francisco 49er QB Colin Kapernick's mother considered an abortion when carrying Colin, but did not. Now, the mother and her family are the darlings of the pro-lifers. It may be true, but it seems I heard the same thing a couple of years ago about Tim Tebow. It all may be true, but I get skeptical when I regularly hear about mothers considering aborting babies that become big-time celebrities.

These same "pro-lifers" vote Republican up and down the ticket, listen to all of the Clear Channel talk shows and have Faux Snooze on the TV whenever I'm at their homes. Thom Hartmann expressed what I've been saying for years and it's good that it's getting some play on at least some media.

5. Republicans won't let contridictory stances on life get in the way...

...of their ideology. They hold the idea that you can be pro-life and anti-life at the same time, depending on whose life they want to save or destroy.

6. Because they're not really about life, but religious control.

They want those Muslims over there to die, and they want to cram their religion into your life. It's completely consistent-- but only if you ignore the advertising.

7. Keep in mind that this is the same crowd

that says they are about protecting people's freedoms, yet they want to make it harder for people to vote who dislike their ideology and for women to get abortions if they have babies they can't afford to raise.
Right-wing politics is all about contradictions.
