Romney has candid moment with Iowa radio talking head

Romney went on some radio show in Iowa and had a candid discussion about mormonism and choice issues off the air and caught on camera. This may be old news, but it's interesting to see him be "real" and not the programmed guy that he is.

So...my views about the separation of church and state are strongly aligned with...MITT ROMNEY????

Romney had very reasonable and rational thoughts on his Mormonism being a part of his life--but keeping
his religion separate from his governing. No doubt his religious views impact his political views, but I approve
of his acknowledgment (and argument that) religion and governance should be separate.

Jan Mickelson, the Iowa talk show host, could not stand that view--because he is an Evangelical Christian
who wants religion completely infiltrating the government. Mickelson is about as far right as they get.
He's very articulate and incredibly successful. His show is popular and he's a very interesting and talented
man. I live in Iowa and listen to him often. I agree with him on almost nothing, but they guy really
runs a great radio program. He often has interesting guests and his banter with his callers is fun.

I thought he handled Romney very well. I was impressed.

I liked watching Romney during the off-air segments--when Romney probably didn't know (or forgot) that
he was on-camera. Romney actually seemed human and intelligent. I don't know who is advising Romney, but
on the campaign stump he looks like a real tool. He's got that fake smile going on all of the time. He
comes off as a total chump. I was impressed with Romney--his demeanor and his eloquence. He looked
a lot better than he usually does! He wasn't wearing his fake smile. He seemed genuine.

If Romney acted like himself, and more normal--as he did during that "off-air time", he's probably be the
nominee by now. Maybe he needs to stop listening to people like Karl Rove.
