Thom Hartmann: Aaron Swartz...Symptom of an Over-Reaching Police State?

When a young Tunisian activist set himself on fire - the Arab Spring was born. What kinds of change could - and should - the death of a young activist here in America bring about?

1. this was such ridiculous over-reach, it was clearly payback for his role in stopping

PIPA and SOPA. And it really shows how asinine and thuggish the government can be.

There should be an investigation into who was running this prosecution and why.

His death was so tragic and needless.

2. +1

Not to mention an object lesson for anyone who might think to lead the opposition the next time they try to push through similarly draconian legislation.

Expect a SOPA/PIPA-like bill to be law by 2014.

3. Best response to our countries loss of an internet grass roots activist. "Freely" sharing ideas!

Alex Stamous believed Aron's action of sharing academic papers via downloading them to others may not have been illegal. I wish there was more about this idea not being illegal.. I remember when the idea of corporations owning the air above us that transmitted computer signals was given to corporations under Clinton instead of being a source of revenue for the whole countries benefit... We really did get off on the wrong start doing that.... I realize this is not a very discript idea of this transaction... but I see this step as the precursor to all the other steps being used via SOPA and PIPA....
