1. The tide is turning

and there will be no going back after this round of sensible gun control puts the NRA where it belongs: in the garbage heap of failed right-wing ideology.

2. this is idiotic

you can't equate product liability in the gun industry to the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry deliberately mislead their consumers about the safety of using their product. Tell me, how many guns blow up on their users each year? How many users are injured by their guns due to an inherent problem with in the weapon?

This is as silly as people suing their car company, for making a car capable of breaking the speed limit, every time they get a ticket.

3. There's that right-wing

neoconservative NRA talking point bullshit again.

People don't commit murder or suicide with cigarettes. Automobiles aren't designed to kill people -- they are designed to serve a useful purpose. Guns are designed to kill living things, and serve no other purpose whatsoever.

Gun manufacturers produce weapons. Get it? W-e-a-p-o-n-s. There I typed it real slow so that even NRA Gungeoneers can read it. A weapon, arm, or armament is a tool, device, or instrument used in order to inflict damage or harm to enemies or other living beings, structures, or systems.

Hunting for sustenance? Fine, register your weapon and keep it locked up when you're not hunting. Home protection? Fine, keep it secure from kids and theft, and be responsible for it. You want to shoot an assault weapon for target practice? Go to a gun club or a firing range, because you don't need one for either hunting or home protection. Want to carry a weapon in public? Demonstrate a definite need (witness in a trial, restraining order against a stalker, etc.) and get a judge to grant a limited time permit -- or become a police officer if you can pass the tests.

What is silly, is a small minority of gun fetishists, who do NOT represent gun owners in any meaningful way, running around and screaming about "my 2nd Amendment rights" and listening to asshats like Wayne LePew and Alex Jones. The American public has had enough of this gun nuttery bullshit, and whether you like it or not, change for the better is coming.
