1. Very interesting...

I enjoyed the historical references and believe entirely that history does repeat itself, and that our culture is in decline. I really enjoyed the reference to Orwell's 1984 and agree that similarities exist. It's been 30 years since I've read the book... I might just need to pull it out, dust it off, and read it again.

The one thing that really struck a negative chord with me though were the radical overtones. I absolutely believe that it is always a mistake to combat radicalism with radicalism.

4. Peace and Love was great for the seventies

But while the populace was busy with their sports rooting and reality show enthusiasm in recent years, the quiet coup has advanced. Heh - try writing letters of reason to your Rep.. If you want something other than a form letter acknowledgement (if you get THAT much), be sure to include a $2500 dollar check. For that sorta "investment", you'll surely get an enthusiastic Thank You!

3. It is a lot to digest, much of it I agree with. I myself, prefer to push for

COMPLETE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM! This should be something everyone on both sides of the isle, (except most politicians), would support. It would give us better outcomes for our legislation. it would prevent the class warfare that has been waged against us all because of the power of money! The lobbying, contributions, media, threats of support for an opponent, among others have skewed our system of representative government until even the will of the people, is manipulated to believe and support what the powerful few desire. Our government is bought the hell off! It is naive to think you can keep money out of politics, but shit, you have to at least try to do something! It would be interesting to see a politician not having to spend most of their time raising money and owing favors. It will take a lot of people to make their voices heard to have a shot at this issue. Unlike Mr. Hedges, I choose not to shirk the responsibility I have to my family. I will not stop advocating because I still believe it can happen.

5. this was good

I wish that people like Hedges, Naomi Klein, Michael Moore, David Harvey, and other such peeps, would switch from book tour mode and go more into organizing and leadership mode. Or something like that.

6. Mang, that was great. I know exactly that of which he

spoke and believe every word of what he said. January will bring a call to arms, I believe.

8. Thank you so much for sharing this . . .

. . . Hedges is, I believe, one of the most important prophetic voices of our time.
