Watched The Lone Ranger movie on TCM today. Here's what's coming in 2013.

This Boomer loves The Lone Ranger and Tonto, and all respect to Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels, who never let us down and never had a pause in their friendship and respect. Yes, stereotypes, but Jay Silverheels broke those stereotypes, and Clayton Moore never wavered in his friendship or idealism, or in standing up to the corporate film titans. Watched "The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold" today on TCM, and thoroughly enjoyed it, even with the 1958 stereotypes (not that tough now to get past, really). Hoping that 2013's version with Johnny Depp as Tonto bears respect to the spirit of Moore and Silverheels. Looks OK to me from this, but we'll see.

1. I love Johnny Depp, but it feels wrong that he's playing Tonto

3. Not sure why. I think he's a great choice.

Tonto was one tough dude, and he didn't get ordered around by anybody. The movie I say today, "The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold," sure proved that. Tonto marched into the racist sheriff's office and took no guff from anyone, and was a hero throughout. He was no "sidekick." He broke the mold, and was a hero himself. Silverheels and Moore would have it no other way.

4. I think...

...Johnny Depp fits the role of Tonto perfectly. Couldn't have been anyone else BUT him, if you're into casting. Can't wait to see it.

5. Feel like you do

I never had much use for Spider-man, Batman, or Superman, but I loved the Lone Ranger.

7. No no no

Generic shit metal soundtrack, no William Tell, Bruckheimer jerky cuts and overly produced effects. This movie will stink on ice.

8. Don't care for Johnny Depp as

Tonto, and I won't go see the movie. I do not want to have my early life heroes ruined by contemporary actors with there
strange ways. But I hope everyone else enjoys the movie.

11. I love Johny Depp and think he is a great actor.

And am sure he will play this part well.
But this is the typical studio movie of today...lots of explosions and mayhem and quick cuts of action...
I won't watch it.
Instead I may re watch "Dead Man" if I want to see Depp and some extremely good acting....one of the best western movies made IMHO.

12. I have to agree about the

over abundance of choppy, metallic, generic explosions and crappy music... but you need to understand that it's a Disney film, cookie cutter movie format, graphics and music stuff. Has to fit a secret agenda with the academy who seems to have been co-opted by a few factions, including the gun toting/shoot 'em up theologians.

That being said, Johnny Depp was recognized and adopted by LaDonna Harris, a NA activist and member of the Comanche tribe this past year for his portrayal of Tonto. there was some controversy but the administrator of the tribe was in attendance at the ceremony. Not sure what that would indicate in real terms but some of the Native Americans are okay with his portrayal.
