4. Is that because they're about as funny as cancer?

Seriously, though, what happened to them?

12. Did you not watch to the end?

God/Jesus strikes them off the "going to Heaven" list.

5. Moving Faith/the Rock in to Law/Capitalism has lead to sinking sand.

Christ threw the money changer Men out of the Temple along with the hall decker Women.

7. Besides being about "as funny as cancer" it's just plain wrong. There was an actual Jesus

weather or not he was the Son of God born of a virgin and raised the dead etc. is pure speculation.

10. When I see some "scholarship" challenging the reality of Moses, Mohamed and Buddha,

I might check out Jesus as well.

17. Nice work, but I think the larger point is that

those personages and the religions they symbolize are altogether forgotten

here when certain atheists here seek a religion to "parody" and sneer at.

When those religions, their founders and followers come even CLOSE to being

mocked and villified in the manner in which Christianity is, I may feel more moved to dispassionate inquiry.

18. Really??

re: "When those religions, their founders and followers come even CLOSE to being mocked and villified in the manner in which Christianity is..."

You're kidding, right?

You think Christianity is more vilified than Islam? In this country?

And have you never heard of anti-Semitism? The only religious intolerance that has its own name!

15. Might I suggest Bart Ehrman instead.

The mythicists are suspect and there is much more scholarship there was. Of course, the historical Jesus wasn't a deity. The church decided he was for their purposes around 400 years after his death.

9. Thank you. I agree.

They put it in the present tense, of course, as "is", but I get the gist.

11. Christian holidays tend to bring out the Big Sneer from many Atheists here. I'd attribute it

to "religion" and its holidays generally, but as you may have noticed, the Jewish

holiday of Hanukkah recently passed without snickers, sneers, or "parodies"

No, Christianity is their only real target, in practice, if not philosophy,

and they refuse to distinguish between "right wing Christianity"

or the other types, even though the latter outnumber the former.

What's stands in almost humorous self-contradiction, is their attitude toward

OTHER religions, like Judaism, or Islam. Criticism of even the more extreme

elements or traditions of these, will tend to get you flamed for "bigotry" or "cultural intolerance".

Merry Christmas.
