4. Yep, I remember watching some of these type films....

...in six and seventh grade. We didn't pay any attention to the warnings. Especially the ones about how Mary Jane makes you want to fly off tall buildings. But the sex ones were all the rage in the lunchroom!

I wonder how it would have sold if: They showed a gay male approaching a straight male(Both of equal ages) and asking him out. And the other male saying "No thank you, I'm not gay. But thank you for the compliment". Which is what I would have said and done and is the only fucking answer. (That is unless you think he's cute and want to give it a whirl! ) |

We had a 1963 Galaxy 500 and I thought the car in the video was one, too!
Then we bought a Ford Fairlane in 1965 and that's the one I learned to drive in! |

22. when I feel pessimistic about the world - I reflect on how radically the attitude toward gay people
|
Last edited Sat Dec 22, 2012, 05:29 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) and homosexuality has changed since when was a kid. Back in the 60's and even early to mid 70's - even the vast majority of liberals would have been utterly homophobic. When I was a kid growing up in small town western PA- the stigma of being gay was as strong as the stigma of being a serial killer or at least a pedophile would be today. Certainly no one - absolutely no one was openly gay in that world. Liberals thought gay people were mentally ill and should be locked up in mental hospitals. Conservatives thought they were criminals and should be locked up in prison. Even most secret gay people - which would have meant at that time and in that world all gay people - themselves were so convinced that they were sick - they didn't even feel angry about being oppressed. They only blamed themselves.
My point is - if society can change its mind that much on that issue - then society is capable of dramatically changing its mind on any issue. |
