Love the Beatles, love The Smothers Brothers (best TV show ever), and certainly John. RIP, my friend. Rock on.

1. This wasn't performed "live" at all.

It was recorded in England on film, edited together in England, and sent as a package film to the Smothers Brothers show to AVOID having to perform it live. The very opposite of the headline. This was essentially a "music video", years before such things existed.

2. If you watch carefully, you will note the music is taped and much of the vocals live.

Love the song - and wish the music were being done live, because I'd love to see how they got that great guitar part going (groundbreaking use of distortion in a song).

3. The great guitar part...

...is played as an "A" power chord, way up the neck towards the 12th fret on the second string. And yeah, you overdrive the hell out of the amp and the pre-amp.

4. I just shared what I had, no offense intended. Enjoy it anyway.

I did.

5. Thanks for posting it!

We Beatles fanatics get a bit, um, anal about stuff like this. This was done in Britain, also for David Frost's show. Sorry for our rudeness!

6. Sorry if I came off as rude.

More than anything, I wish the lads had continued to play live after 1966...ah what a world.
