1. Spitzer should have been, could have been, US Attorney General

had he not had made such powerful enemies. But, that's why he should be appointed, anyway.

2. Absolutely!

We need more Eliot Spritzers fighting for us and less Murdoch's Fox News gasbags like Rush Limbaugh and his hate media cohorts.

Murdoch hasn't updated his will lately.

7. Watching Pox

causes inpoxication and eventually mind rot. It's blatant propaganda just gives the others cover for their more subtle / sophisticated propaganda.
Politics is the entertainment wing of the military industrial media complex.

6. Why doesn't the FCC impose fines for lies meant to trick the public.

We have all these fact checkers that differentiate between a slight misrepresentation and
a "pants on fire".

We have even seen that this has gone so far as to have Romney (a presidential candidate)
say that he and his people were not going to run their campaign with true information
just because of fact checkers.

This is cheating - Some people are willing to elect a cheater and expect he/she will not cheat on them.

This is the same as winning a foot race by tripping your opponent.
or plagiarism or lying in court and sending an innocent individual to prison for something they didn't do.

How far do we let this go?

How far do we let our politics and people seeking power and people in power go
before we say, this is enough, this is not acceptable?

And then when these people are caught they get a hand slapped and they go back to the office the next day.

If those are the rules they want to establish then that's the way we'll play the game.

12. it's my understanding... perhaps others can elucidate..

that because Fokkks is cable, (ie purchased programming), it does not need to comply with the same standards, that "over the air" broadcasting does... the FCC has little if any regulatory power over the cable industry..

while all you say is true, i would beg to differ on one conclusion... if we play their game, we sacrifice the truth.. fighting lies with lies is counterproductive..

13. How far do we let this go?

As far as the First Amendment reaches.

The First Amendment is not subject to truth commissions that get to decide what is an approved truth and what is not.

We do not have censors. We have the marketplace of ideas. We let different ideas compete, different versions of the truth, and, yes, even lies compete.

The problem is not that certain media lies. The problem is that people are not interested enough or patient or educated enough to ferret out the truth for themselves.

Fox News exists because people watch it. Same for Limbaugh. His sponsors must like him. His listeners must like him.

It's up to us to compete with all their noise and lies.

21. The fact checkers would become politicized

which would be a step towards authoritarianism. We have the First Amendment for a very good reason.

14. Fox

Fox News is NOT a news organization.

It is an opinionated tabloid.

It should be required to have a disclaimer.

Remember the days when the news was not for profit and the news had to be factual ????

The U.S. is corrupt to the core.

Our politicians have sold we the people out.

Everything that is wrong with this country can be traced back to corrupt politicians.

I am not anti government.

I am pro government.

I am anti corrupt government.

Our government has failed to protect the citizens of the United States.

NAFTA, Free Trade Deals, continuous warmongering and empire building, deregulation, monopolies, tax incentives for questionable business practices, voter supression, welfare for corporations etc. The list is never ending.

18. Imo, this is a greater concern to the public interest than any scandal I've seen in my lifetime.

A nation of laws should demand that its public be accurately informed by its news media. I'm in awe of Great Britain's demand for integrity; when will the U.S. be the hero for its citizens?

19. Elliott Spitzer's personal issues.

Nice of Spitzer to slap our military our military in the face. Its really quite simple Spitzer if people don't want to listen to Fox News all they have to do is turn it off. Every day they risk their lives so that every American can express their own beliefs. To those that support this diaper wipe, remember the shoe may be on the other foot one day soon and Fox News may be the only news station that is allowed. This man is a moron.

22. How would anyone reach the conclusion that Spitzer's call for integrity in our news was a slap

in the military's face? The military has fought in wars to protect our citizens from the very propaganda that Fixed News stands for. Freedom of expression does come with the unspoken requirement of responsibility & accountability.

33. Crowder's video was carefully edited to cut out what happened just before the guy took a swing at

Crowder. But the guy appeared to be standing back up, as if Crowder had pushed him to the ground.

But yes, Crowder and O'Keiff are two 'agent provocateures' who provide the right wing noise machine with their pictures, the way they did in the days of William Randolph Hurst. ("You give me the pictures and I'll give you the war." Journalists starting wars for the sake of selling newspapers. I never thought we'd see those bad old days return, but apparently they have.)

28. Why does the FCC keeps saying 'Yes' to Murdoch?

Rupert Murdoch, contrary to what Spitzer proposes, is emerging from the Hackgate kerfuffle stronger than ever. With the purchase of the Yes Network, along with his holdings in the B1G 10 Network, and the subsequent expansion of the B1G to the east coast with Rutgers and Maryland...

Fox Sports will be positioned to demand the type of cable fees that have been reserved for the likes of ESPN until now. Cable bills and the price of satellite subscriptions will continue to rise.

31. News Corp is little more than a massive criminal enterprise...

ANOTHER News Corp scandal

Yet another News Corp scandal: This one is new to me. Murdoch's baby is being sued by -- get this -- the folks who make Dial soap. It's all about those coupons that come spilling out of your daily newspaper, especially on Sunday.

Bet you never thought much about how all that stuff got in there, did you? There are only a few firms handling such promotions, and they also handle in-store promotions. The coupons are damned near the only thing keeping some newspapers afloat these days. According to the suit, News Corp used underhanded tactics -- including hacking into competitors' servers -- to get exclusive contracts from advertisers...

When you combine this lawsuit with what I consider the greatest of the Murdoch scandals -- destroying competitors in the world of Pay TV by distributing illegal hacked smart cards -- it really does seem as though News Corp is little more than a massive criminal enterprise. Where does Murdoch find these sociopaths who work for him?

http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2012/12/variously.html

Sounds suspiciously like the illegalities that Chris Christie helped to squelch.
