He knows that a tax raise is going to have to happen, the political and social pressures require it.

He just wants to get it fixed in to the meager Clinton rate so that they can say "well we raised taxes on the rich and it didn't help that much."

are hoping for a compromise. It would serve them right if Obama just let the Bush cuts expire and made them pay at the old rates. In fact, we should consider going back to the Eisenhower rates. Assholes ...

He's afraid of the possibility, later on down the line (say we win back the House in 2014), of the top tax rates going up severely if something isn't "accomplished" here.

The Clinton rate isn't that high after all.
