2. Reagan was never more than a glorified cue card reader during his entire career.

I used to think the stuff he said during his presidency was partially due to him having early stages of Alzheimers. But lately, with all the Red Scare era quotes I've read from him, I think you could have put anything in front of him, he'd read it and he'd believe it's true.

There's your icon, Republicans. A glorified cue card reader. Still proud?

That they can't distinguish between a system of governance and an economic system. There could exist a democratic communist nation or a totalitarian democracy.
What none of us wants is totalitarianism, but as long as the wingnuts can't get past the "slippery slope to communism" idea, we won't be able to have a rational discussion on the economic foundation of the country.

A government requiring all its citizens to subscribe to a national healthcare scheme is no more Socialist than that same government requiring its citizens to pay taxes, register for the draft, maintain automobile insurance on their motor vehicles or wear a seat belt when we're driving that vehicle. It's called civic responsibility and Mr Reagan's plea against such a concept more than likely is done on behalf of health insurance providers fearful of diminishing profits and not in the name of safeguarding our democratic way of life. As President of the Screen Actors Guild, I'm certain Reagan's health insurance needs were fully met just like any Senator or Congressman who also chose to lobby against socialized medicine. This PSA was nothing more than him paying his corporate masters his annual health insurance 'premium'.

They're just wrong & they have ALWAYS been wrong.

How did Socialism get so demonized in this country anyway?
It's like demonizing Republics because of The People's Republic of China.
Just because something has the name doesn't mean they live by that name.

A system that creates abundance AND fairly distributes that abundance will ALWAYS be a great society.
Can't have either/or. You must have both.

Call it what you wanna, whatever 'ism' you wanna come up with, just do it.

P.S.: Betcha Reagan didn't do a thing with Medicare once he became President. They'da destroyed him if he did.
Obamacare once tweaked will have the same effect. Nobody's willing to go off it once it become the norm.
