(20,885 posts)As a man, it always disturbed me to see women using our pens. It's bad enough when they use our pliers. There's a thought. Anyone?

(27,630 posts)So good!
it's funny in a 'I've heard this kind of sarcastic humor before.' But I'm old so I've heard lots of it.
However, you do realize that Ellen does commercials FOR COVER'GIRL' MAKE-UP, don't you??
Honestly, when I saw her first CoverGirl commercial, I said aloud....."That does it. Our supposed steps toward an equal society are over. Lesbians are doing commercials for MAKE-UP!!! That's 4 steps backward. Where are my sisters when I need them?"
Please keep in mind my age. When I was in college and grad school, none of my women friends wore make-up. We didn't fool around with our hair...just washed it and grew it. At that time, we nearly put the cosmetic industry (run by rich white guys) out of business. They were truly scared. We told them to F-O. We were powerful! We look good as we are....and the dudes liked it, too. And we all had the same length of hair....LONG.
Make-up ads just crawl into your psyche and tell you that "You're not pretty. You're getting old. You have wrinkles. Boyz won't like you.....ETC."
While in San Fran, in the late '70's and 80's, I rarely saw my lesbian friends in make-up. It's very demoralizing to me that Ellen thinks it's A-OK to make millions selling make-up to women, which makes them feel not-so-good about themselves.
When are men gonna start wearing make-up? I mean, come on. There are some ugly-looking dudes out there who need to cover up those bags under their eyes. And the pock marks....geez!
Last and then I'll shut up....the profit margins on make-up are the highest of most any industry...including diamonds. To fork out $30 for a tiny vial of wrinkle-remover? (And that is a Walmart price). I guess only the Rich can do that. I'm old, no longer eye-candy, and never wear make-up...I feel great...just like I did in college.
And every time I see a young dude with long hair, I complement him. He kind of blushes and always says, 'Thanks a lot.' It's so rare that I get to be a dirty-old-woman. There are just too bald dudes walking around...not pretty.
Oh...buy your face cream at Aldi's....only $3.99. And use their baby wipes to clean your face....or if in the shower, use the shampoo from your hair. Just stay the hell out of the sun and tanning booths. You'll have beautiful skin that really needs nothing.
Whatever happened to "It's what is on the inside that matters?"
edit for clarity.
she is just so elegantly beautiful in that commercial.
that as to mean, without make-up a woman can not be elegantly beautiful.
I wish da boyz could feel that.
Natural beauty....that's what used to be 'the thing.' It's a different era and our culture is pretty much in the sewer now so there's not much use to spend any brain time on it.
Next she'll be wearing 5" heels w/ her pants....those designer ones that are made in China with G I G A N T I C profit margins.
Maybe you missed it.....I hate ALL greedy corporations, but the ones who devote all their energy toward women have a special place in my heart.
Oh...I forgot to stop at Staples today. I was going to break something expensive. OOPS.

(22,380 posts)And I raise you the need to use a little make up and help every now and then when I want to look my best.
I wash my hair and put on nice clothes and some make up when I go to the opera for instance. Or a concert.
I buy the stuff at the dollar store, and my budget for it is miniscule.
I do have friends who are my age (we're probably as old as you) who have long gray hair hanging down and wear Birkenstocks no matter where they go.
That's OK by me, we go out together and that's no problem. It's just not FOR me. I know you get the difference.
I also know some men who wear make up, have had face lifts, and use Botox.
To each their own.
And about the little video, it made me laugh, hackneyed, sarcasm and all.
dressed up when I lived in a place where one could get dressed up and have a place to go. And I would put on some powder, a teeny bit of mascara and some lipstick.
Now I live in the middle of redneck Ohio. There is nowhere to go to get dressed up.
I used to live in San Fran, KC, Chicago, Cincy, Lexington, KY....and I made an effort.
I wish I still had my long hair....I always thought that I'd be an old woman w/ long hair in a bun. I try to grow it out but it just will not grow!
I am starting to sell all my pretty clothes. I have gorgeous shoes that I no longer wear....none are from China. Either Italian, Brazil or Spain. I wish I could find a drag queen with smallish feet...I know he'd love them. I'm getting rid of all the 'things'....it seems like they are from another life. I guess they are.
I bought all of my clothes at the end of the season and they had to be 75% off and not made in China (since 1989)....and I have way too many clothes. When I left Cincy, some women got some very cool stuff...if you like Classic. I'm not very trendy. I just gave it away to a woman who was a Social Worker for the city. She was so happy. Women needed clothes for work and interviewing.
I like Ellen. She is very funny. I just hate the cost of make-up and what it says to women.
