(40,416 posts)About Obama and Lehrer.
First, what was Lehrer going to do to shut Romney's disregard for the rules of the debate? I think Jim Lehrer is smart enough to understand the dynamics of these stage shows -- or maybe circuses. He knew that a huge confrontation between moderator and debater would be a bad thing. Instead, he let Romney show his lack of character, his lack of fairness, his rejection of decorum. It was there, raw, for everybody to see. Lehrer just let the dynamics play itself out. To suggest that his job was otherwise is not understanding what he saw of last night's performance.
Second, Obama. When you get into a tussle with a pig, the only thing you do is to get yourself dirty. But the pig loves it. By taking the high ground, nobody will be able to claim what they will inevitably say about Romney's dispicible performance. That he tried to write his own debate rules and making the entire debate about Mitt Romney instead of a dead serious decision about who is to be president of the most powerful nation on the planet.
That's all I can say. Take away from it what you will. But, I think the President did fine and this will end up hurting Mitt Romney very badly.

(25,111 posts)How can you debate a pathological liar that appears unstable? Mittens broke the rules, dissed Lehrer and tried to get O to start attacking him verbally. That is not presidential material but a very dangerous person who I personally don't want near the button.

I think Obama did poorly during the first part of the debate, and got stronger as the night went along. I wouldn't say he did fine, but not terribly either, sub-meh if you will.
