''As for medical marijuana ... I'm not familiar with all the details of the initiative that was passed, but I think the basic concept of using medical marijuana for the same purposes and with the same controls as other drugs prescribed by doctors, I think that's entirely appropriate. ... I'm not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue.'' ~Barack Obama, The Mail Tribune March 23, 2008

1. Well Canibus is going to cost me about $10 K this year

And that is if I am lucky.

Because my darling child decided to get high at school, I have to cover the drug treatment program which is not covered by insurance, the fine that will be leveled when we go to court and fees to get the child back into school, provide they don't recomment expulsion.

Not to mention that the kid will never get a good job, never get a student loan let alone accepted to college.

Thank a whole fucking lot!!!!!!!!

3. you just became collateral damage...

...in the war on drugs. All that, just to keep someone from taking a few tokes of marijuana. Now imagine living in a rational country.

4. Sounds like you should thank your darling little child.

So he/she got caught getting high (on what?) at school? Who is at fault? And pray tell, forced drug rehab? And all of the other shit you mention? Where do you live? I ask so I can avoid going any where near such a fucked up hellhole that they take away so many rights and indeed, the very future of my own child.

5. Where do you live?

You might be able to find low-cost rehabs in your state, if you're not too rich. Many locations do have programs that are affordable and sometimes free.

Your little darling can go to community college, if he does well he can move on to any school--not all colleges are going to excoriate a child for some weed-related stupidity in secondary school. He can also home school if you want to put your boot on his neck--there are a lot of online schools nowadays; the trick is to find a good 'un.

You should also try to get the little fart's record sealed and/or expunged, if he is young enough. A lawyer can help you there. Then, all the bad shit can kinda go away.

Hell, the MILITARY would take him with that "crime" on his record, assuming there isn't a pattern of misbehavior and he sticks to a "I was experimenting, it was only the first, second or third time I ever tried it, I was easily led by older, more sophisticated peers" excuse. He'd have to go through the waiver process, but it's not too onerous, assuming he doesn't look like a "scary" kid to the straightlaced population, with crazy hair, piercings and too many tattoos. He would get training, and be eligible for the GI Bill, which will defray a fair amount of that college expenditure. He could also take courses while he serves to get a jump on his post secondary education.

Life isn't over for him--he just fucked up. He needs to understand that, certainly, but his path will just be different, not a complete disaster. It might even be a good thing in the long run. It's better to learn the old "Actions Have Consequences" rule when you're fifteen and not fifty or more, like the Republicans do.

8. Some of the low cost/no cost ones just might be. It depends on your financial circumstances.

You've got to do some looking around, and see what the deal is. Not all of these things are completely in-patient.
Has he been convicted of a crime, yet?

What is your lawyer saying? "Take the deal, go and sin no more?" or is there even a strategy laid out?

Did the kid open his mouth and admit anything?

Are they offering a "rehab or jail/record" option?

I'm sorry for your troubles; I would make Junior take an after-school job and pay you back--every damn dime of it, even if you can afford the cost. You could secretly put what he gives you towards his tuition for later if you'd like, but it's a good lesson for him to have to feel the financial pain, and also to not be stupid at school.

9. And ther is the kicker

Too much for low cost, not enough to not worry about what it is going to do to us financially.

6. Your sigline says it all

The "War on Drugs" is all about greed. And you've learned that the hardest way there is to learn it.

Do you realy think a child getting caught smoking is such a horrific thing as the War has made it out to be? I don't. After all, Obama admits to toking up, and he's the frickin' President.

Don't blame advocates for medicinal cannabis for what you are going through. Then you are buying the propaganda that we, as a nation, must destroy the lives of our own children due to a plant.

The laws and rules are Draconian and evil and a sin. The ten grand you spent should be used for your childs college, etc. not to go into the pockets of "rehab centers", lawyers , law enforcement and your local court.

It's terrible what happened to your child. A crime has been committed against your family OUT OF GREED.

Don't blame people who use this plant to help ease symptoms. If your child was caught with Hyrdocodone, would you blame all the physicians who prescribe it?

10. I have no idea.....

...how one gets high on a Jamaican rapper, or even how a Jamaican rapper is ingested. On the other hand, I believe that also see your problem. You've gotten used to your slave-chains. But it ain't the Jamaican rapper (nor the plant cannabis' fault if that was what you were shooting for) as to what happened to your daughter.

- Geeze, I don't even know why I bother sometimes........
