Libertarian interviews (D) delegates: whether pro-choice extends to food, schools, or light bulbs

A friend posted this video "How Pro-Choice Are Democrats?" on Facebook. Reason TV's Zach Weissmueller interviewed some delegates at the DNC about the delegates' views of the term "pro choice". Weissmueller went on to ask the delegates whether they support being pro-choice in food, light bulbs, or schools.

If you don't want to give a libertarian channel traffic let me break down the video:

0:45: Interviewer brings up trans fat bans and the proposed large soda restriction in New York City (it's not a ban, it only forbids some restaurants from selling 64-ounce sodas). One delegate says those food regulations have legitimate purpose due to the taxpayers' cost of health care from eating those foods. Another delegate points out how Mississippi is the most obese state and responds "Absolutely" to the interviewer's question "do you support taking away the consumer choice?"

1:20: Interviewer asks a delegate about Sen. Chuck Schumer's proposed ban on the Four Loko energy drink that contains a mix of alcohol and caffeine. The delegate responds that people should only make good, healthy choices (this is where the "choices based on results" part played at the beginning of the video came from).

1:50: Interviewer asks two delegates about choice in light bulbs (in response to the 2007 bill requiring light bulbs to be energy efficient). Both delegates respond that the environmental concerns justify limiting the choice.

2:10: Now the topic is right-to-work states. One delegate responds that people should be free to join a union if they wish, but RTW states are a bad idea. Another delegate responds "No, I don't like right-to-work states."

2:30: School choice. One delegate from Louisiana responded that school choice would be good if the parents were well-informed. Another delegate criticized the profit motive in some charter schools.

I wrote this comment in friend's facebook post:

- Food regulations: I think adults should be able to eat or drink whatever the &%^%^ they want. As for the NYC proposed restriction on selling large sodas, I would definitely say it interferes in adults' dietary choices, but something has got to be done in a nation where poor kids are doomed to a daily diet of soft drinks and processed crap.
- Light bulbs: I can't defend selling anything that'd pollute/harm the environment.
- School choice: I actually agree with the delegate from Louisiana, school choice would be a good thing as long as the schools in question are well run and the parents are properly informed.
- Right-to-work states: Aren't RTW laws government interference into private enterprise? Unions are democratic institutions, and the existence of unions in the workplace to begin with depend on whether majority of workers in said workplace support so. Whether or not a workplace is unionized should be in the hands of the workers not the government.

holes who tried to question-load Matt Damon on education policy and he handed them their ASSES (You-Tube it.). They are right wing propaganda assholes, but really, not very good at it. You can smell their bullshit a mile away. These CORPORATE RIGHT WING TOADIES go around with their bullshit framed loaded questions to progressive events all the time. You have to see them for what they are and turn the tables on them and then SMASH them about the head and ears like Damon did.

We are pro choice on the issue of abortion. Every other issue is to be considered on an individual basis. There is indeed a contradiction if we are to assume pro choice means freedom to make your our own choices on every matter.
