Too many medieval idiots with money think the horns will make them more virile.

The human condition alas.

You can look up rhinoceros horn in any Chinese herbal materia medica, like Dan Bensky's, and it will tell you that Rhinoceros Horn is used for certain deep seated fevers in the blood, for which it is a very effective remedy. It is NOT, and I repeat, NOT used to make men more virile!!! Ask anyone who is licensed in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine who knows their Chinese herbal medicine, they will all tell you the same thing as I, who am also licensed in Oriental Medicine. I even used to work as a Chinese herbalist in the back of a Chinese herb store in Chinatown in Los Angeles, writing out herbal prescriptions in Chinese and giving them to the pharmacist to fill and put in little bags for the patients.

I suppose that the source of this persistent bit of misinformation is the common slang term "horny" in English. That, plus there are many herbal medicines, even some that do use animal parts, in Chinese herb stores, to make men more virile - but those animal parts are mainly deer antlers, human placenta, sea horses, and the penises of certain animals like dogs, deers and seals.

I was very curious to see if the video itself propagated that persistent, pernicious lie about rhinoceros horns - well, not directly, but they suggested it by association. Chinese medicine uses the horns of other animals, like antelope, but here again, not to make you "horny", but to clear various kinds of severe and pernicious fevers. In awareness of the endangered species phenomenon, there has been an effort to substitute water buffalo horn for rhinoceros horn, since the horns of that domesticated animal can be taken without killing it, even though water buffalo horns are not quite as effective as rhinoceros horn.

Again: RHINOCEROS HORN IS NOT USED AS AN APHRODISIAC IN CHINESE MEDICINE!!!
