"1776" (1972) - The Signing

From the Columbia released film of the musical play "1776", this is the scene in which the Continental Congress signs the Declaration of Independence. It's the finale of the film - end titles and music are included. Music by Sherman Edwards.

"1776" starred William Daniels (John Adams), Howard Da Silva (Benjamin Franklin), Ken Howard (Thomas Jefferson), Donald Madden (John Dickinson), David Ford (John Hancock), and John Collum (Edward Rutledge). Both the DVD and the VHS versions are available for purchase at Amazon.com NOTE: There is available a fully restored DIRECTOR'S CUT version, on DVD.

on HBO. John Adams played a huge role in pushing us towards independence, but sadly, he is still not as well known as Sam Adams. Not to get too emotional about the 4th, but I have done lots of research and found two of my grandfathers that fought in the Revolutionary War, one for America the other for England. One was a Captain from Virginia who fought most of his battles in the Carolinas. The other was Hessian solider who was captured on Christmas Eve in NJ. Funny part is the Captain and the Hessian grandchildren ended up marrying. I watch these reenactments and think of the bravery these people showed and the destruction our generation is doing.
