The Many Reasons People Love Bernie Sanders
The empty seats, the chairman just walking off. It always gets me. He's always been there for us. Fighting.
And I didn't even know. But I'm glad I know now.

(57,936 posts)Neither of them is a pacifist, but Bernie talks about cutting the military budget. I don't hear that from Hilary. She is in with them. She wanted a no fly zone in Syria. Russia was the only country really flying any military planes there. That's like declaring war on Russia. What????? Over Syria???? Really????

(2,412 posts)I cancelled Tom Hayden's newsletter and I told him why. Hillary Clinton is carrying out the Project for the New American Century plan to
destabilize the entire Middle East to make those countries into "democracies". How is that working out? A million people are dead in Iraq, Syria is a disaster with the largest refugee crisis since WWII. Libya is destabilized and is overrun by ISIS. She has her sites on Lebanon and Iran too. This is war and more war. Tom Hayden has discredited himself and disgraced himself.

(24,010 posts)Is he jealous? He should've been leading this revolution. Why isn't he? On the payroll? Dunno. It was the hardest of the Democratic Party leaders' betrayals for me to take. I was shocked by John Lewis. But I saw that coming when Andy Young showed up at the Condi Rice hearing and said that the questions being put to Condi Rice were "sexist" and "racist"! I knew that icon had been bought and paid for. I also guessed that sexism and racism would become hammers to batter the heads of anybody who objected to war, torture and gargantuan greed by the 1%. Young was one of my SCOPE/SCLC trainers in Georgia in 1965. That hurt. I never knew John Lewis so that was just shock, not hurt. Hayden is hurt. It is a colossal betrayal.
So many people I had great admiration for, when I was young, got "turned" by the Reagan junta, or starting around that time, into corporate/war profiteer shills, apologists, lobbyists and/ or "revolving door" puppets. Daniel Inouye, another one, way back--presided over the Iran/Contra hearings that should have impeached Reagan over his covert war on Nicaragua. (Congress had passed a law specifically to forbid this.) Our corrupt and cowardly Democrats gave in to Reaganism (more $$$ for the few) instead. Inouye presided over that farce. That was the big turning point, and now we see a landscape littered with once great leaders sucked into the maw of the corporate/war profiteer monster and spit back out as lifeless suits.
Well, I guess they figure they've got to secure their cushy berths on the Titanic, while the rest of us are gated and chained below, far from the lifeboats. It's a shock and it hurts but I understand it, sort of. Mother Earth is going down for the count. We may see the end of a habitable planet Earth in our lifetimes. And we all will have done this ourselves, not just the betrayers. But you'd think these once great leaders would give some thought to the little people, since most of them were little people at one time, and they rose up to inspire us and represent us, at earlier times of need. All seem to have gone for the cushy berths...
...except one.
Except one.

(10,495 posts)Barney Frank has been vicious. Bill Deblasio, John Lewis (that one really hurt). I just cannot think right now, but please feel free to add more politicians.
In the media we knew Tweety was a sell out, but damn he went newcueler as W would say. Jonathan Capehart, Rachel, Chris Hayes... Feel free to add here.
We have lost, just at MSNBC, Ed Schultz, Cenk, Melissa Harris Perry... And the ones that stayed became more partisian towards Hillary and followed orders of inserting Trump every other word.
You cannot critisize any establishment Democrat for anything lest you become a hater. Why so sensitive? Because they don't want you pulling back the curtain and seeing Big Money there behind it!
I was on a jury today that voted 4-3 to HIDE a comment about Bill Clinton where they said, "Can that red neck grifter do math." Really? I was banned from the "Obama Group" when responding to a post on the front page (Didn't look and see it came from the Obama Group) where the OP was saying Obama was the best POTUS of all time. Others responded critically of some of Obama's policies like NSA spying, his Wall Street appointments... People were going nuts that others dared point out facts and criticisms. My post was that I thought he didn't make the top ten. I expressed that he did some very great things against an obstructionist Congress, but in the end his protection of Bush/Cheney, the spying, increased deportations, prosecution of Whistle Blowers etc., when taken into account would drop him in the ratings. I also committed the cardinal sin of complaining that any criticism of Obama labeled you a "Obama Hater." Minutes later I received notice that I was banned from the Obama Group.
This is a political discussion site, not a Pep Rally! How can we learn and grow and exchange ideas if we continue this? How can we identify all those bought off by corporate money without critisizing the Democrats we think sold out and why? I don't watch a lot of television and rely on others to let me know who said what. With the current purity test mentality we are blind deaf and dumb! I can take critisim, I have no one on ignore, never have. I don't want snark, I want facts and discussion.
Win or lose, I will stay behind Bernie and OUR political revolution!

(39,215 posts)across the country. I took a group of high school students to observe the senate in Iowa. We sat in the balcony watching for several hours. Besides the speaker there were a few legislators there - many sound asleep, talking together and just ignoring what was being said. There were people walking in and out the whole time. The speaker might as well have sent in his speech.

(39,215 posts)aware of constituents interests, there and awake during speeches. But I think that went out with the coming of anti-intellectualism.
We are now electing some pretty stupid officials to government at all levels.

(342 posts)this man, Bernie Sanders. Year after year, day after day, hour after hour he has been fighting (yes fighting hard) for human rights and equal rights for all. I'm glad I lived to see him take his dream all the way. Now we have to stand behind him, make his cause ours, not for a day, but for our lifetimes....as Bernie has done.

(84,711 posts)Those of us Legacy DU'ers remember how we were glued to C-Span...back in the Day...and everything that Was Dem fighting against "Our Wars" and the Legislation against Our Privacy and the rest of it watched the few Dems like Bernie who spoke out on the Senate and House Floor and there was....NO ONE THERE....to listen to them.
Bernie was there speaking out just like many others on the Floor of House & Senate...and both Parties abandoned their Speeches that were "to the People."
This is the Disgrace of our Elected Officials on both Sides in the US House and Senate that they don't even bother to LISTEN! Because the Lobbyist Meetings are More Important!

I just wish it could be seen by everyone in our country, which sadly it won't be. I encourage everyone who sees this to forward it to as many of your friends & family you can think of and on post it on your facebook pages and send off in tweets.
Forget the TV. This revolution will not be televised! YOU are the media!!!!!

(39,909 posts)I have been waiting for a DEMOCRAT like this since JFK, though LBJ accomplished a lot for traditional Working Class Democrats and The Poor,
he wasn't as charismatic, and I was blinded by the Vietnam War for many years. It is only in retrospect did I develop respect for his accomplishments....doing the right thing despite political consequences. He was the last Liberal Democratic Prsident of the last 1/2 century.
