DEMOCRATS DENOUNCE CLINTON CRIME BILL, Rep. Bobby Rush | Michelle Alexander, Bernie Economic Plan

April 13, 2016. MSNBC's Tamron Hall focused on the background and 22 year legacy of the Clinton Crime Bill of 1994 and the resulting widespread destruction of black lives, families, jobs, neighborhoods and opportunities.

The mainly private, for profit corporate US prison system now has the largest incarcerated population in the world, primarily people of color, blacks and Latinos that comprise 2.2 million individuals, even compared to the much higher general population of 1.3 billion people in authoritarian, communist China, as Sen. Bernie Sanders emphasizes.

Under the many strict new provisions of the 1994 Crime Bill, children as young as 13 years of age were prosecuted and incarcerated. During the MSNBC show, Illinois Congressman Bobby Rush (D) stated his deep apology for voting for the law and spoke forcefully about the need for Hillary Clinton to reverse, not just repudiate the horrendous outcomes in the black community since the Crime Law's passage.

3. 'CA$H-FOR-KIDS' Pennsylvania Judge Who Sold Juveniles to Jail, 2003-08 Gets 28 Years', Dec. 30, '15.

A Pennsylvania judge convicted of sending young kids to juvenile detention centers in return for cash has been sentenced to 28 years in prison, reported NPR. Good riddance to this guy.

Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was convicted of taking up to $1 million in bribes from developers of juvenile detention centers in the state of Pennsylvania. The disgraced judge became known for doling out harsh sentences for small, petty crimes in order to receive payment for each kid sent. The scam became known as “kids-for-cash.”

Between 2003 and 2008, the Pennsylvania state Supreme Court tossed 4,000 convictions issued by Ciavarella because the judge violated the constitutional rights of the kids. These violations included denying the right to legal counsel and the right to intelligently enter a plea. Disgustingly, his attorneys said that all the media attention on Ciavarella was a good enough punishment.

“The media attention to this matter has exceeded coverage given to many and almost all capital murders, and despite protestation, he will forever be unjustly branded as the “Kids for Cash” judge,” said the attorneys’ memo.
