Military Historian Agrees with Bernie Sanders: Hillary Clinton is an Unreconstructed Hawk

Military Historian Agrees with Bernie Sanders: Hillary Clinton is an Unreconstructed Hawk

Published on Apr 8, 2016
http://democracynow.org - In the Democratic presidential race, Senator Bernie Sanders has often clashed with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about U.S. policy in the Middle East. At one debate, he accused Clinton of being "too much into regime change." We ask military historian Andrew Bacevich for his assessment.

But I don't think that matters much to Hillary voters, she's a hawk and they know it. It should matter, but it isn't high on their list of concerns. Maybe Bacevich's point about the end of the draft partially reflects why that is so.

I like to think that the Democratic party is for the most part the party of peace and accepts use of force as an absolute last resort. If Hillary is the nominee, I'll admit I am wrong on that.

I also agree with his point that the candidates should be asked to explain what the past few decades of US activity in the Middle East have accomplished and what lessons they have learned from the experience. That would be interesting.
