I'm not calling for a boycott, but I have to wonder what companies ask for a spot on that show. For that matter, what station would air this racist shit?

As a follow-up, she now says she isn't a racist because of her last name, and she didn't use the word "monkey" and "Obama" in the same sentence. Her blog post also has unrelated entries about evolution that she feels explains her words.

I'm glad she cleared that up. I hope she has a good second career choice.

please please . people on this board take a RATINGS study. to get rid of these ilk. call ambitron and ask for a device to sit in your room . everytime it detects a souind it records it. many huge radio properties lost their ratings because of this device . i havent listened to any of our socalled local clarke ( a clear channel wannabe ) radio stations in years because they broadcast this kind of trash on their flagship station. if u really want them off the air .do a ratings survey. thank you i too am sick of this . ratings are a tv and radio stations life blood (advertizing dollars )

I think you need to think again about that.

If someone sent out emails criticizing Bush while showing him eating watermelon or fried chicken at a fundraising picnic, no one would assume that the food imagery was chosen with racist intent--but it would nevertheless be considered racist if similar pictures of Obama were sent out in a critial email, specifically because of the long history of using such images in racist attacks against African-Americans.

Context matters. To call a white man a monkey or a gorilla as a way of suggesting that he is not intellectual or sophisticated is certainly insulting, and people do insult those on the opposite side in politics. But it is much more than merely insulting to do so if one's target is an Afrian-American, specifically because such imagery has been used in the US as part of the process of dehumanizing African-Americans and of justifying horrendous abuses against them.

There are other ways for the RW to insult Obama without resorting to racist imagery. They call him a communist/socialist/elitist snob and all sorts of other things. We consider those isults stupid, wrong, and obnoxious, but as much as we disagree with them, we don't consider them racist, because they are not racist.

If you think it's a color racism issue, you are totally wrong.
