He spent a hell of a lot of time explaining that they didn't use torches in WW2, as if he thought anyone would think Romney meant a literal torch. I wonder if he understands that Operation Torch wasn't named after a burning stick.

Honestly, let's just leave intentional stupidity to the experts. ==>

My maternal grandfather served in WWII and rarely even mentioned it. I've got his foot lockers, one of which I think belonged to his father and probably came from WWI. My father-in-law served in WWII and we recorded many of his memories on cassette tape. Mostly it was about how terrible C-rations were and stories of travel through Australia by train and how the hoards of rabbits made the track so slick that the train had trouble moving at times. Some of it was about crawling between the hulls of subs for repairs because he was the only one skinny enough. I don't recall either ever mentioning specifics of their combat.
