US Pres. Primaries, Super Tues. March 1, the 1st Super March 15, Delegate Type EXPLAINED, France 24

Last edited Tue Feb 9, 2016, 08:56 PM - Edit history (4)

The US Presidential primary season of 5 months refers to mini elections (primaries and caucuses) held in all 50 states.

On SUPER TUESDAY MARCH 1, elections will be held in 14 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Wyoming.

For the first time, a 2ND SUPER TUESDAY MARCH 15, will be held with elections in 5 states: Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Missouri and Ohio.

Each political party has a number of Delegates. PLEDGED DELGATES are supposed to support candidates who have got the most votes.

SUPER DELEGATES numbering 800 consist of congressional members, governors and former presidents who may vote how they want at their party's convention.

Both Parties hold national conventions in July. At their conventions all Delegates gather to vote for the nominee of their party.

REPUBLICAN National Convention, July 18-21, Cleveland.

DEMOCRATIC National Convention, July 25-28, Philadelphia.

have them in the 60s and we did just fine. They started this idea after McGovern because we seemed to be losing - sound familiar? That is also why we ended up with the DLC. I remember being told that we need super-delegates from the establishment to override the popular vote in case we elect someone the party leaders do not want in the primary.

What happened to We the People?

The People are the foremost deciders. The practice of Super Delegates needs to end, and the campaign finance system must be reformed. Same for recent, widespread discriminatory voting restrictions esp. since SCOTUS gutted the 1965 VRA in 2013, and the gerrymandering of congressional districts.
The corrupt, growing problem of tampering with votes and electronic ballots needs to be tightly regulated and overseen as well. This country must get back on a forward direction, we've regressed far too much in 30 years.

win. Get as much changed regarding how elections are run as we can. Power back in the hands of the people.

This undemocratic practice needs to end. It never should have been instituted, allowing approx. 800 Dem. congress members, governors, DNC members and presidents to make candidate commitments well before primaries are in full progress.
