I've been hoping for that rapture thing to happen. I think life will be much easier when that group departs.

(10,494 posts)hometown in TN., to find a house and a job (for what he thinks is a VERY short time). He recently quit his job of 25 years as a Paster at a local hospital and his wife will quit hers once he secures the home and job. He firmly believes that the Rapture is coming soon, certainly within the next two years, but most likely in the next few months. He has been working on who he thinks is a lapsed Catholic, not knowing I do not believe in God. I don't have the heart to tell him as it would ruin a good neighborly relationship and neither of us would ever convince the other of the rightness of their convictions.
My hope is that he lands on his feet and doesn't suffer for his beliefs. He has provided countless people with hope and comfort in their darkest times. It is because of his true belief that I have not said how I really feel. I find that most so called "religious" people are hypocrites. At a minimum, they do not come close to following the teachings of their faith as evidenced by the Religious Right's attacks on the poor, elderly, disabled, minority, and immigrant populations. Kim Davis is one of these attention seeking hypocrites trying to push her so called beliefs onto the rest of us in an attempt to prove her own devotion. I believe with her that she is acting more out of a twisted self-interest than anything else. Personally, it adds to my growing cynicism and lack of faith in my fellow humans.
While at times DU does as well and not just by the articles and videos I read and watch, but the snark and hate of some members, overall though I see good, caring people hear concerned about their country and their world and the people in it. I admit that I too have been guilty sometimes of what I complain about so I guess I fit in somewhere between the good and the bad, but I am trying. I don't need the promise of Heaven, nor the threat of Hell to do it either.

(10,494 posts)is mainly doing that in an attempt to "save" as many as he can. I can admire the selflessness of his attempts to help others clean up themselves so that they can live in eternal bliss. That's as far as I can go because it's so freakin nuts!

(40,416 posts)Plus, Stanley Kubrick. Plus Peter Sellers (times three), plus George C. Scott, plus Sterling Hayden, plus Slim Pickens, plus James Earl Jones, plus Keenan "Bat Guano" Wynn, plus, plus, plus.
A perfect flick. Kubrick himself held a handheld camera during the battle sequences. Not a flaw in the film.
And yup, Vera Lynn gives good apocalypse at the end, right after Slim Pickens' ride to oblivion.

on edit: well, if one is going to have Armageddon, one might as well ride it down. Right Major Kong?

And
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, rebuilt its Large Hadron Collider, making it twice as powerful. Experiments with the giant collider have already led to the discovery of the God Particle, the building block of all reality. But now the CERN scientists are using the machine to search for dark matter a previously undetectable substance that many scientists believe makes up most of matter in the universe. They also are looking for a force called dark energy.
These experiments may create black holes right here on Earth. Eminent physicist Stephen Hawking has warned that black holes can create gateways to alternate universes. If CERNs Large Hadron Collider creates a black hole, many fear they might open a portal to a parallel Universe or another dimension. Or maybe even the Gates of Hades?
Google Earth still thinks the door will open to Hell. Type in Gates of Hades in the Google Earth search bar and Google Earth takes you to CERNs headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. And if you type in September 23 2015 or 23 September 2015 or 23 9 2015 or 2015/9/23, Google Earth takes you to CERN headquarters as well.
Some people think that Google uses an algorithm that connected the date September 23, 2015 from various cosmic disaster predictions on the Internet with the CERN location. According to this theory, once that connection was made, it created a reinforcing, positive feedback loop. But other people are convinced s really a secret Doomsday message.
And
Will there be a false flag nuclear attack on NYC on September 23, 2015?
