Thom Hartmann: Lookout for Pesticides in Paradise

Patty Lovera, Food & Water Watch, joins Thom. For today's green report, we go to Hawaii - where 90% of the industrial GMO corn grown in the United States was originally tested. Now the island is dominated by chemical companies like Dow, BASF, Syngenta and DuPont. And those companies spray 17 times more pesticide per acre than is used on ordinary cornfields in the continental United States - just so that they can test new strains of herbicide resistant GMO corn. And the health outcomes in Kauai are telling - tune in and discover just how bad this is.

Holocene extinction: Currently ongoing. Extinctions have occurred at over 100 times the background extinction rate since 1900. The mass extinction is considered a result of human activity.

People mention pollution and they think of factories and oil companies. Monsanto, Dow, BASF, Syngenta and DuPont are killing our planet with our blessing.

The primary cause of pollution is profit.
