But I'm scared shitless of hitting the ground. Even water like this.

Norm McDonald's joke as I remember it:

There are only two categories of cliff divers. There are really good cliff divers . . .

. . . and then there's stuff on a rock.

I know, in the video, the extreme athlete is jumping, not diving. I hope he has a brace to support his neck in case he hits the water at the wrong angle.

I've looked at lots of pics of the cliff divers and it always looks like they need to make sure they jump far enough out to avoid hitting the rocks...I could never do that.

Norm's joke is good...a little too good.

Doesn't that little rock island look like some kind of big knobby monster fish swimming in to eat the diver when he hits the water?

I remember watching the episode and fearing for the diver's life as his descending body nearly converged with the rock outcropping at the base of the cliff. The announcers were panicked as he drew close to the rock wall. Fortunately, there was just enough distance between his belly and the rock for him to touch down into the water without scraping the wall.

I had the same thought about the rock islet in the photograph. I does conjure thoughts of some sort of primordial sea monster.
