Our Elections Are Not Safe

Last edited Wed May 27, 2015, 12:39 PM - Edit history (1)

Have you ever wondered why our elections consistently out of whack with polling immediately prior to an election?

There's a good reason. The votes are counted on machines and in secret by corporations that want the elections to have a certain outcome.

Jonathan Simon discusses election theft with Tony Trupiano. Jonathan's book, Code Red speaks to the issue of election theft.

1. Watch for candidates whose votes overtake the opponent in the "home stretch". Real election returns

don't obey the physics of horse racing, and except for the occasional chance occurrence, there should be no magic pumping adrenaline that kicks in and drives the underdog to overtake the lead. But for some types of election fraud it would be easier to make bogus adjustments on an "as needed" basis to keep the margin "close" in the end and not be ridiculously lop-sided.

2. We should be talking about NOTHING ELSE but THIS!

Election integrity is absolutely fundamental to our democracy--to our ability to change and reform our government, and to our ability, as a people, to exercise our rightful control over those who are running our government.

Without honest vote counts--votes counted in the PUBLIC VENUE--we DO NOT HAVE a democracy!

Further, and importantly, we CANNOT change the OTHER ways in which the 0.01% are defrauding us of honest elections--the filthy secret billions poured into the political system, the purging of black voters and other poor voters from the voting rolls, the rancid corporate media monopolies. We can't do anything about these things without the first condition of democracy: votes counted in the PUBLIC VENUE.

The U.S. has NO election integrity. Private corporations--some with far right ties that would make your hair stand on end--took over the counting of our votes between 2002 and 2004, with e-voting spread across the country like the plague, and all of it run on 'TRADE SECRET' code--code that the public is FORBIDDEN to review--with half the states in this country doing NO AUDIT AT ALL of the voting results, and the other half doing only a miserably inadequate 1% audit.

Our elections are easily--EASILY!--riggable, and they have been, and are being, rigged.

Jonathan Simon provides plenty of proof in his book "Code Red." You only have to look at Congress to know that something's very, very, VERY wrong. Go to his book and find out WHY.

3. I remember when the machines first got introduced

and being at Brad Bog and Crooks and Liars where we tried to stop it from happening. Now it seems like it was all just a waste of time and no one cares about this very important issue.

4. Have We given Up on Election Integrity? My LTE
Thu May 28, 2015, 06:11 AM

After watching this video interview of Jonathan Simon, the author of the new book CODE RED, I wrote an LTE to the Wichita paper. There's a 200-word limit for LTEs to the Wichita Eagle. I'm not sure it will do any good. As Simon notes in the interview, people just cannot believe that such a thing could be happening in the US, which people prefer to glorify as a sort of bastion of democracy. In reality of course the US is no such thing and elections are almost certainly being stolen regularly, especially for the lower offices where chances of any sort of audit or recount are almost non-existent. Here's the letter:

HAVE WE GIVEN UP ON ELECTION INTEGRITY?

Electronic voting machines are essentially unverifiable. It’s as if we give our vote to a guy who takes our vote into a room, then comes out later and says that he has carefully counted all the votes before shredding them, and here’s the result. Like it or lump it. And yet thousands of elections since computers began counting votes in 1988 have not squared with the exit polls or with other significant measures of trustworthy results. In the last election in Kansas, for example, Beth Clarkson, a statistician at WSU, found some marked irregularities in terms of urban/rural deviance and asked to be allowed to study the paper tapes from the voting machines to square them with the precinct results. Kris Kobach would not allow her to do so. A recent book, CODE RED by Jonathan Simon presents an excellent summary of how we got to the point we are now where corporations count about 98% of the vote and it’s almost impossible to verify anything. Isn’t it time we joined Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands and trashed the machines in favor of easily verified paper ballots, preferably hand-counted?

... NOTHING else we do will make any difference. The people's will cannot prevail working within the system if the system has been successfully rigged to ensure that it never can.
